Maryland Blind Site Licensing, What to expect?
I have been doing some research preparing to hopefully get some spots licensed when they open in August. What should I expect when I go in August? Is it a madhouse on the first day? The sites that I am looking at are not currently licensed and I am trying to compile in case my firsts are unavailable when I go. I also plan on scoping them out in person before the licensing of the site.
Looks like I may have a couple of Gems for when I go, but we will see. I also assume that I will have to go to the county in which the site is located and can only license two per day? Am I right on this? -D

Get ready for a zoo.
It's the kind of deal where you take a full day off of work and go to the courthouse, or where ever the drawing is being held in the county of your choice. Drawings start at a certain time and you all take a number. #1 starts and has something like 10 min to pick up to two spots. You pay $20 for a spot and it's your for the season. It is up to you to make sure the spot is the legal distance from dwellings, etc. Scouting beforehand is a great idea. You can look at a copy of the landowner registered licenses before the drawing day in Annapolis or Salisbury( I think ) Then after the drawing days you can go to the regional service centers to buy more sights....Bel Air, Annapolis, Centreville, Salisbury...maybe more? The bottom line is you just have to get in line and hope for the best. It's comedic to watch and listen to the folks in line. You have to show your current hunting license or the one from last year to get a sight. Many folks used show up with a work van of Hispanic workers and get them to draw too. Now at least they have to get them a license to improve their chances. I go into the draw not expecting much and am happy if I get what I want. Not sure what county I'll go to this year. -D |
