Finally got around to grassing my Merrymeeting Scull Boat.
It's a Lock Stock and Barrell Brant II. I bought it used last summer and got it wet for the first time on sunday while scouting for the upcoming season.
It'll have a little Johnson 15 on the stern and hide two guys or me and my dog rather well in the marshes around here. She'll make about 15 mph with the tide and about 12 against it.
I attached flip tops that the previous owner had made out of 1x10 pine. I replaced the hinges and cut the boards in half.
While at Home Depot I found some plastic deer fence and decided it would back the grass mats nicely.
I trimmed the netting to fit and added it to the boat. Next came the grass mats, and with a little paint here and there tomorrow she'll be done and ready for some carnage this weekend.
My fingers hurt, and my back is killing me so there better be some ducks this weekend.
There are easily 200 wire ties holding all this crap on.
Good taste and sea ducks should not be used in the same sentence.
It's for marshes, but will see its share of big water use too. It's easily carried by two guys so pulling it up in the marsh and getting it out at low tide is no problem. Saturday I'll be hunting an impoundment that is not much more than a foot of water in most places and I'll be able to slowly motor along or pole where needed.
It's a really good design. One of these days I'm gonna build a cedar strip one. Hopefully next summer.
A punt gun would be a nice addition. Only for those foggy days though.....the grey whaler would never find me.
Sweet litle boat,A friend of mine has been building boats similar to those the last few yrs. He gave me a copy of the plans, maybe one day I'll get my chit together and build me one.The ones he's building are just a little bigger and are rated for up to a 25hp.
