    Making a few Foam Decoys

Got grandpa's molds out, ordered some beads and made a mess! A few decoys too!

How do you put the foam into the mold if you dont mind me asking? I'v seen some made out of cork and they carve it into shape. I was just wondering how you get your shape when using foam.

That is awesome! Thosed decoys look pretty dang good too! With Herters being shut down, I bet a bunch of people wish they had some molds like that, I know I do. That would be fun to do, especially if they turn out as good as yours did.

Do you know if you can buy molds like that anywhere today?

    Decoys

Making the decoys is fun. It's not cheap, but that's not why we do it. I buy the unexpanded foam beads and then cook them in the molds until they expand. There are a few companies that sell molds. R&R sports for one. This one is a magnum diver (size of Herters 72) and makes a pretty nice bird. I trestle coated these, but might just go with painting them next. The next batch is going to be mostly Oldsquaws and Brant I think.

I think the most impressive part is that your wife lets you set up your drying rack in the kitchen!

    Nice birds!
