I think Admin is going to let me have this space
Jared,
I get the no scopes if using dog's, we use open sight's here for bear with dog's too. Scope's that close are pretty much useless, cut's your field of view (tunnel vision). Just about the time you're ready to squeeze off and dog cut's in. You DO NOT want to shoot a good bear dog! I'd say the same thing applie's for hog dog's. I use a scope on my 30/30 now because my eye's are failing, plus the hog's where I hunt move right at dark. But I am with you 100% on the peep sight's. I was talking with a friend of mine the other day and saw an older .300 Winchester in an old lever action gun sitting in the corner, it had peep sight's (Lyman's). He said he "didn't like them". I asked have you ever shot it, well no just don't see how it can work. I told him try it this weekend and tell me what you think. I already know the answer. Framk

I fogot to ask, whst yardage would you sight it in for?

generally site in where you have the least variance in the bullet your shooting for the ranges you likely will be shooting. I figure out what ranges I am likely to be shooting (ie 30-150 yards) then I look at ballistic charts figure out how much drop at 25/ 50/ 75/ 100/ 125 etc for a 50 yard zero, then a 100 yard zero, and then a 150 yard zero. Basically you want the least variance on your bullets travel as opposed to your hold.
My .270 I use from 30-300 yards. With a 200 yard zero my loads are 1.6 inches high at 100, dead on at 200 and 9.6 inches low at 300 (I could be off a bit on the 300 yard drop). Thus I am able to cover a large swath with out having to worry much about hold over etc.
Thats just my way!
