Limit on early season woodies

Went in the swamp at 6:33am this morning, shooting time was at 6:43. I knew the birds would be flying early, so I didn't want any more temptation than needed. Got to the spot, flipped out 4 wood duck decoys and a couple of mallards. 6:43 cam and no birds, thinkin to myself, well, here comes another one of those. 7:00 rolls in and I am killing more mosquitoes than anything. Then a pair of woodies come in, I drop both, my buddy missed his. Single come in, dust that one. Single flies over, miss. Pair fly over, get one. Go pick up birds and shoot one on the walk and my buddy shoots one coming into the spread. Pick them all up and in the process fall in because of a log (usual trip, but my buddy missed me falling in). Pick up decoys and load kayaks in truck and leave for work at 7:24. Gotta love early season wood ducks!

P.S. For those who know me, these are actually wood ducks and not some protected species, LOL.

I can't wait till next Sat. for the MD opener. I saw dozens of woodies and about a thousand (no exageration) teal yesterday when I went down to brush my creek blind.

Great Hunt

Great Hunt, my favorite type of hunt by far capt. That is the best eating duck in the sky in my opinion. I have found myself in the past 5 or 6 years wood duck hunting more than ever. I think most people over look them. It does take much but a small creek or a big tax ditch, the edge of an agriculture field and a small woods edge and it might hold 'em. Took my Dad last year on his own farm, it was snowing last day of the season in Janruary and we had 18 to 20 drop in on us after they circled three times with 5 decoys and managed to take 8 it was a blast. Anyway they make great dumplings. Keep it up.
