Ill try to keep this short. My friend and co-worker had killed a nice eight pointer the day before. He said the deer came out to a grunt call. I have been hunting a farm in Wake county and had seen nothing but a few does in about ten trips. It was my birthday so I decided to take of work a little early. Got in the woods about 3:15 and let everything settle down. Started hitting the grunt call a few times and nothing. Ive grunted hundreds of times in the past and never had any luck with this so I just put it down. Well at about 5:00 I think I hear a frog croaking in the woods behind me...then I think its way to cold for a frog. About the same time I turn around and see two does crashing through the woods and hear this "croaking" again. Now Im about to fall out of the treestand I am shaking soo much. I get the old grunt call out again and blow it.......He answers and starts easing my way. I prop my gun on the tree and wait for him to enter an opening. He is about 20 yards away now and stops behind the last tree before the opening. Im holding the gun...shaking...cant breathe...the bark is breaking on the tree and the gun is slipping.. This goes on for about 20 minutes and finally he sticks his neck out...BAM... Call a few friends after catching my breath and find him about 100 yards away. Happy Birthday Me... Nothing that will impress too many people, but my best deer to date.

Congrats on the real nic buck. The calls work sometimes, somtimes they don't. I love hearing about the excitment we all cheerish as a big part of the hunt. 40 years of deer huning and I still love it.
