Last Day

Jeremy, Ross, Maybelle and I headed to the swamp for the final day of duck season.

Great weather.

Pretty good shoot, too.

Glad we brought Ross, he was the dead eye.

Jeremy and I did manage to each get our Black ducks.

Knocked down a Widgeon that got away.

We were eat up with black ducks repeatedly after we each got our one, it was tough restraining Jeremy at times.

3 blacks, a drake woody and a drake Gadwall.

Maybelle was a little excited today and made some mistakes, but overall did good.

Maybelle had a great season, she really came into her own. retreiving some really tough ones in the swamp.

She is not much in the big water, but she is only 28 pounds.

In the swamp she is the bomb!

This season Maybelle fetched 30 doves and 53 ducks (all quality too, no mercruisers or buffs)

I need to work on my waterfowl ID..... While they are decoying.... Hehe. Thank goodness I had 2 people saying "Black Ducks".......

I'd get busted the first day out! They all look like ducks to me and it is duck season isn't it! Pretty cool to see your dog coming into her own too, that's a special thing in itself. I've never worked retriever's, but I've "made" many a rabbit dog. It's really a satisfying thing to see a dog develop. Of course the dog has to "have it" in the first place, you're just helping the process. Frank

I've hunted with Ross up at Fred Wicks place in maryland...he knows how to hit a bird..

She is wondering that today, she will be moping around for the next week or two.

Ross was rollin birds that I missed, twice.
