Hunted the reef Thurs and Friday. Swamp Sat
Thursday Bluebird,
sat at the house and had breakfast waited for enough tide to fill in to sink the box. Tied out about 9:30, put up about 500 pintails while deploying the rig, poor shootin.
Friday NNW 20-25
Best shoot of the year on the reef. Pintails, Redheads, widgeons, brant, new birds decoying readily, really excellent shooting. I got two stellar shifts in the box, first one had three flock of pintails decoy one small flock of a doz or so and I got mine, my partner failed miserable, then a flock of 25 decoyed and his excuse that time was "I could not pick out one bird" killed a brace of brant that shift too. Second shift, my partner (different one) got a pintail, couple nice flocks of redheads, each killed our limit of drakes, big ole fist sized head redheads!
Sat cold but light and Var.
Maybelle and I went out behind the house for the end of season wood duck count. breakin ice. All 12 of my residents are still there and none made a fatal error. They are just about to receive new housing. Went out to the reef and put the cap on the box and brought the decks in.
Good season overall, I wish I could have put Maybelle on a few more birds but she got a good taste and I think she knows what it is all about.
