Well this is it the last day to do some dirty blammin down here... Gonna go to my "C" spot... A lot of animals come out of there but I have never done much myself. A long hot walk in and very mixed terrain, it hold promise. Just havn't scored well there myself. So why try there? The reason is simple... Its a reserved still hunt area and today being the last day of black powder, the buggies and camps need to break down and get out. There will be too much commotion to be productive in my A or B spot...
The piece I blam at gets a couple weeks off before quota permit hunt... Opening day of that is busy as all get out but the animals really move well after a couple weeks of peace and quiet. The trick in that is to get in a place where the animals are either gonna get pushed to you or circle in behind the pushers... That is my single most productive day most years...
Any way... Trying my hardest to get you guys a piggie...
A squirrel, coon, armadillo and big ugly colorful snake was all the "C" spot had to offer today. Never heard a shot while hunting... On the way out I heard a load of blamming by guys unloading . I heard almost a dozen blams come from a single buggy. I was sure they were using modern muklti shot weapons til I saw the two guys aboard had racks full of single shot and double barrel BP guns.
Final tally was 18 pigs and 18 deer for 1400+- hunter days for our Black powder season.
Our quota gun opening day is an adventure... I think we get around 500 guys in there, most on buggies with dogs really pushing stuff around. I just sit and let them blow by. Either they push stuff straight to me or the porkies do the circle behind thing and never see me standin there...
The '06 has been lonely for a couple years so I'm looking forward to taking her for a walk and see if I can't reach out and touch something... I do love a gun that if I can see something I can take it... Also gonna tote the blamerator 870 and see if I can't detour some doves into my fry pan!
Actually they have about 70,000 acres to hide in. Much of it in accessible by even buggy. We have an early season here. I don't know why... Its over raelly around mid November at least for the piggies... The deer are still open til December but antlered only and one per man per year. When the piggies are done I usually do a couple afternoon blams for doves... I have a spot where they come hot and heavy for about twenty minutes out of the adjacent orange groves...
