Just got a new Thompson

I just bought a Thompson Arms Omega with a black synthetic stock and their new weathershield treatment on the metal. I put a Nikon Omega BDC scope on it. This scope is set to be used with predetermined loads in the muzzleloader. If you shoot a 250 grain sabot with a 150 grains of powder and zero it at 100 yds the scope is presighted for several different ranges after that and the scope has small dots on the vertical axis line that coincide with the ranges. Im hoping to get it down to the gravel pit and stretch its legs out. Penn. muzzleloader trip is around the corner.

Anyone familiar with these scopes and muzzleloaders. The guns are made in New Hampshire.

I've shot an Omega for 3 seasons now and I love it. I shoot the 295 grain powerbelts just b/c I picked them up on a whim. W/ 2 777 pellets. It performs great out to 150 and I've never needed more. Mine has a POS 4x scope that I'm going to replace one of these days.

Follow the cleaning instructions to a T and the gun will treat you well.

No one makes a ML better than T/C.

My good buddy shoots the same scope and load combo as you in his pro hunter and it's worked so far 1-0

Happy shooting.

I bought the same scope for my pro-hunter last year. It works but I suggust putting in the range time to expirment with a few different bullets. Each shoots a little different.

As for sighting the scope I found the easiest way was to get a large i.e. long box and put you mark high. Go out to 200 and use the 100 yard X then see where the bullet hits in relation to the small circles.
Good luck - Rob

congrats on the new gun, let us know how it groups, what it likes the best. I have always just shot 100 grs of powder and I know they advertise shooting 150 grs on TV. Standing by for your report.

Ok guys I sighted the gun in and ran some powder through her. I have to tell you I am nothing but impressed. I measured out a true 100 yards with a tape. No eye balling the range from me to the target. I am shooting a Omega Z5 with the weather shield barrell. I am using three, 50 grain, .50 caliber Triple 7 pyrodex pellets. I am shooting Thompson's .50 caliber Shock Wave Sabot. I only had enough powder for eight shots. The gun was bore sighted and it got me on the paper with the first round. Also if I forgot to mention this gun uses a 209 primer for its ignition system. It took me about six shots to get the scope dialed in to where I feel comfortable with consistency. My last two shots after making final minor adjustments both fell in the bullseye area of a four inch circle within two inches of each other. The best part of the experience is that I outshot my friend who was sighting in his rifle. I asked him if it felt weird to be outshot by a guy with a muzzleloader when he was shooting a .308. The scope on the gun is a BDC. I did not have the powder to try the different reticle out to the two hundred yard mark. I have no doubt that this gun will perform at that range. The setup I believe is going to be a deer slaying combo. Im headed on a muzzleloader trip and some of the fields I hunt I will be able to stretch it out a couple hundred yards if the shot presents itself. All in all this is a kick ass set up that is very affordable. Pics hopefully when I get back of the damamge this set up does.

The pellets are very easy to use but for best accuracy I have used the same measure for about 20 yrs now I have an Omega in SS 100 in either pellets or pyrodex is it's diet Pellets produce 1 3/4 groups at 150 The pyrodex at 100 grns measured shoots one hole at 100 yds with the 240 Hornady sabots Once I get the accuracy I want I don't change
The Omega wears a fixed 6
I have an 85 knight as well as a traditions inline
The Knight has the 209 kit shoots the same sabots into an 1 with the same pyrodex It won't shoot the pellets worht a hill of beans
The traditions is a 1-32 twist with the #11 caps 100 of goex and a 270 grn TC maxi it cuts clover leafs In Mass you cannot use the 209 last time I checked so this gets used when I do hunt Mass (Haven't hunted Mass in 12 yrs)

Blue, congrads on getting it in. I use the shockwaves as well after several brands they seemed to shoot the best but as I mentioned you should try several as each gun seems to have it's own attitude. My brother has an Omega and it seems to shoot the powerbelts much better.
The pellets are great but if you really want consistant shoots spend the time on the range with regular powder and adjust the load up or down. My prohunter actually shoots the shockwaves best at 135 grains of powder... damn near a tack driver. I rarely get a shot past 150yards but there is no doubt it will "get R done" out to 250. I personally think the pellets are fine to 100 -150 but if I am taking a shot any further I want to make 100% sure it hits the mark.

Congrads to you and best of luck! - Rob
