I'm a Bad Deep

WIth a few minutes to call my own I just went west to my stomping grounds to shake off the cobwebs and do some dove shooting. I was considering bringing my bird browning butthe underlying purpose to this blam was to just get reaquainted with the blamerator as I may do a break away quick blam this weekend...
I pulled over on the axle eating road and dropped an improved choke into the old gal. That coupled with the short barrel is only good to thirty yards but I had other chokes with me. I set up across from an orange grove and it wasn't long before three came long.
Blam! Blam! Blam! The choke and 7 1/2 shot were comming up short another double came even longer but down wind and again Blam! Blam! Blam!
I decided to take a couple minutes to dig out and change chokes. I looked up to see one of my game warden buddies pull up.
"What ya doin Paul..."
"Blamin..."
"Not target shooting are ya?"
"Nope... Hopin for some birds..."
"Quail? They've been at the other end..."
I was scratching my head what was up with the questions. This guy knows I shoot doves from that area... I wondered what was up...

I glanced over at my rule set and saw the answer... Theres a week off between set two and set threee for doves...I'm so used to deer hunting in Jersey this week of time each year, I didn't realize the closed week was THIS WEEK!

Think quick Deep... "I was hoping there were some (quail ) up along this edge up here. I started walking and kicked two woodcock (IN season). I guess I'll go try the other end..."
"See you around..."
I got back in the car embarrassed to tears and feeling lucky that I didn't have any doves on me. I felt bad about lying to him but it was CYA mode...
So I guess no more practice for me this week...
