If this ain't the dumbest law ever seen

I love the Great State of North Carolina bu they sure arn't exempt from dumb ass laws:

If you live in NC and buy a crossbow in NC you must first obtain a concealed weapons permit.

Hold on------- just hold on a minute before you get all in a tither--- it gets better

Now you don't have to have a permit to own a Crossbow in NC---- you don't even need a permit to hunt with one---- you just need one to buy it in the State of NC.

Now, it is perfectly legal to go to Virginia or SC and buy your crossbow and bring it back home to the Tar heel state without a concealed weapons permit

It is also perfectly legal to use your crossbow (whether a NC resident or from outside of State).

Uhhh ... yup... pretty dumb law... Lots of em are...

In New Jersey they sell hollow points but its big time against the law to be in posession of em (hard time).

New Jersey also considers anytthing that can hurl any projectile a firearm. Gun, bow, sling shot, bb gun!

Here in Palm Beach we now have to have a concealed permit in order to cash and carry a gun. Otherwise its a week even on long guns. Yet I can go four miles north to the county line and transact cash and carry.

I love it when folks melt down for all the wrong reasons. You don't need a concealed weapon permit to buy a crossbow in NC, you need a weapon purchase permit, just like a handgun. Don't know why a crossbow is included, but a purchase permit is much easier and cheaper to obtain. Of course, you don't even need that if you have a CCW ...

I'm sorry, you are correct. It's an either or. If you don't have a CCW, a purchase permit must first be obtained from the local Sheriff's office.

So you are saying it is dumb to try and reduce the number of weapons a convicted felon can get their hands on?

Pass more laws, thats how to keep the firearms out of the hands of the criminals, they pay attention to the law.

No not at all. What I think is a dumb law is requiring a permit to purchase a weapon in state but then be able to excerise our right to keep and bare arms once it is purchased (by any means). This "permit" should not be confused with a criminal background check as is done with the purchase of every firearm, but rather another senseless piece of red tape that will serve no purpose at all. As most of us know, there is a criminal background check already required when you buy a shotgun or rifle---- no CCW or permit required from the Sheriff.
As far as felons go, I believe (but not positive) that they are legally able to hunt and use bows and crossbows--- just not firearms. Either way, there seems to be no benefit or protection whatsoever in requiring a "permit" from the Sheriff or Court (CCW) to buy a crossbow within the State but then none required to use or possess one. Indeed, the Wildlife Commission even states that it is perfectly legal to go out of state to purchase your crossbow and bring it home to NC and use it.
    Am I missing something here?

I can guarantee that you will have a 60 to 90 day wait to meet with the Mecklenburg county chief to get your CCW.

And about 24 hrs to get a purchase permit, which is all that's required to buy any weapon in NC. And this requirement has pretty much 'zero' impact on the ability of a felon to obtain a weapon. Ask about any LEO ...
