FIRST......LOOK DIRECTLY AT THE DEAD CENTER OF THIS PICTURE....NOW LET YOUR MIND WONDER DIRECTLY THRU THE CENTER OF PIC AND IMAGINE ME SITTING THERE WITH MY BOW IN A HOMEMADE BRUSH BLIND ON A RIVER BANK 50 YARDS BEHIND THE IMAGINARY SPOT.....BECAUSE THAT'S WHERE I WAS WHEN THIS PICTURE SNAPPED FROM MY TRAIL CAMERA....



THIS SPOT IS IN A NARROW FUNNEL ABOUT 80 YARDS WIDE TOPS AND NATURAL FALLEN TREES ROUTE THE DEER THROUGH THIS EXACT SPOT WHICH IS WHY THIS PLACE IS SO GOOD

HAVING SEEN A 7 POINTER ON CAMERA FOR SEVERAL DAYS I DECIDED TO SET UP ON HIM WITH BOW.....BUT WHEN I ARRIVED AT MY LADDER STAND THE WIND HAD SWITCHED WITH THE PASSING FRONT AND WAS NOW BLOWING FROM MY STAND NW DEAD INTO MY SHOOTING LANE....I KNOW BETTER SO BEING THE SMART HUNTER I DECIDED TO CHANGE MY STAND LOCATION

NOTE THE DATES AND TIMES ON THE PICTURES AND YOU CAN SEE THIS PROGRESSION OF MOVEMENT

BEING THE MASTER HUNTER THAT I AM I DECIDED TO OUTSMART THIS RASCAL.....MANY MANY PHOTOS SHOW HIM COMING FROM RIGHT TO LEFT....SO YESTERDAY MORNING, I QUICKLY BUILT A GROUND BLIND ON THE FAR SIDE OF THE TRAIL USING THE WIND TO MY ADVANTAGE....I WOULD CUT HIM OFF "BEFORE " HE GETS TO THIS SPOT ON THE TRAIL".....YEAH RIGHT

THE BUCK HAS SHOWN UP MID DAY ON CAMERA MANY TIMES...SO ....I DECIDED TO PACK A LUNCH....WELL AT 2 PM YESTERDAY ....I WAS FRIED....NO DEER-NO SHOW...NOT EVEN A DOE...THE WIND HAD LITERALLY BEAT ME TO DEATH ....SO I PICKED UP ALL MY GEAR & CRAP & PULLED OUT AND ALSO GRABBED MY TRAILCAM IN DOING SO....WHEN I ARRIVED AT MY TRUCK I PLUGGED THE SD CARD IN MY VIEWER AND LO & BEHOLD.....THE DANG BUCK DID SHOW!!!! HE CAME IN FROM THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION AND STAYED IN FRONT OF THE TRAIL CAMERA A FULL 15 MINUTES WHILE I SAT 50 YARDS AWAY BEHIND SOME FALLEN TREES!!!!!!!!




I SIMPLY COULD NOT SEE HIM AND DANG SURE COULDN'T HEAR JACKSHIT CAUSE IT WAS BLOWING 30 PLUS..........YEP......I OUTSMARTED THIS ONE.

Well on the plus side:
the truck is cleaned out, so that should fetch a higher price

the bow has pretty much new because it hasn't been fired much

The arrows have new (unused broadheads)

The clothes don't have "Ass o' herring" scent to them but can be reused for that application if desired...


I keep tellin ya, take up duck/goose hunting. Good conversation, great food and YOU KNOW when the birds were there and you missed them.

The worst part is that the old buckaroo is laughing at you because he is messing with your mind!! Think like him and move 80-100yds the direction he is coming from...then you can ask him personally who has the last laugh now!!

if it was easy, all the deer would be dead. STICK in there and try again, the harder the hunt, the better the reward when you succeed. You have done the work, found the SPOT, now wait till the wind is right and go kill him. Man it will feel good!!!!!!!!!!!

Your taking pages out of my play book... I'm bad about outhinking myself. I set my spots for a reason, then try to improve on the fly... Next thing I know I walk back and the ground is warm where he bed down in my blind.
Earnhardt got on a kick like that for a while. He'd qualify, dial in and practice with a car, then the night before he'd change the set up and it would take five pit stops to dial it back in. I had a bad habit of doing that in tournaments. Getting away from what works every day to be "Creative" ... Bad habit...
