Yea that preety much sums up my evening hunt.

I got to sneak out for a couple hours last night to go deer hunting.

When My buddy brings me to the stand to get in he tells me to climb the tree and then jump off that tree onto the stand wich looks like a wooden pallet nailed to a branch. O yea and there was no string so I had to carry my stuff up the tree. I told him no that was ok.

So we go walking down farther and come up on another stand he says this is mine keep following that trail and you will come across another stand get up in that.

Well I get to the stand and it is about 30 foot up the tree and again there is no rope. The tree this was on had three trunks so you had to climb back and forth and then to get on the platform I guese you have to do some acrobatic move and swing yourself swing yourself around the tree. All while carring your gun and bag. I am not the smallest guy to be doing this. I am about 6 foot 275 and have had 5 knee surgeries. I decdied to jsut sit under the tree.


Well about a half hour later one of my clients called me and I had to answer it. As I was talking three does were running at me. They stopped right before the creek about 35 yards from they must have winded me. I drew my gun up and wited for a clear shot but the first one a big ***** looked roght at me so I shot. She took off running so I tried to shoot the one behind her yea I missed her too twice. About 5 seconds later my friends shot and got the big one I missed.

I was using my waterfowl gun a Benneli Super black eagle. I think my problem is I was not putting the bead on the deer I for some strange reason was covering up the deer with the barrell.

I had a herd at 50 yds a few seasons ago and I picked one and put the bead on her. Shot and missed, shot twice more, missed. The she ended up being a he with one 4" antler hidden by an ear. He ran underneath me and I threw another in and as the bolt closed he fell over dead and I heard the air escape his lungs. It turns out I accidentally loaded some buckshot in one of the first 3 shots, and one pellet double lunged him. That's what happens when you throw away the box and put all of your slugs in crown royal bags.

What slugs are you shooting?

My record is 167 yds that dropped an 8-pt in his tracks with my SBE and a rifled slug. Those damn guns throw lead all over the place and sometimes you get lucky.
