With meat in the bank and now tuna meat to back that up I'm thinking that upping the game and try to get selective... But since I aim to please .... Get picky and hold out for a good one or drill more meat... I'm undecided, I need your help... Lets hear the input. You make the choice...
Ok so be it... I shall continue my quest for all Bambiage... They really need culling on that one piece any way...
Actually, I really need to pack in another tuna and another Bambi to help keep that whole cooler froze solid for that extra day or two when I take a detour through Box land and add even more.
The wind was puffin pretty good this morning. Enough so that when with coupled lack of reports from the mud hole that the giant tuna hunt was scrapped. It was too late to get into my usual spot for a hunt so I went on a scouting run... One spot holds a lot of potential so I'll look to try it there today...
The evening hunt was uneventful... Nothing moving... The walk out was a tough one though.
Its a place I used to walk through to go duck hunting as a kid. Used to occasionally bang a pheasant there but we didn't have deer here back then... The old trailsgoing in have overgrown and unless you are a deer its pretty toough to get to. Shes surrounded by salt marsh and quicksand class muck on two sides. The center is thick. Alternating from foxtails to thick scrub with patches of maneating briars between, I learned the hard way tonight that its not a good place to try moving in the dark. The briars and brambles found me, surrounded me, and tried to eat me!
I can't remember a tougher two hundred yard walk short of trying to navigate through mangroves in the keys. So I guess the hunts will go on hold til my mate gets back to town so we can hunt the piece he has the permission for...
Finally off to British columbia myself to kill a bambino and Bullwinkle funny how the thought of the bloodbath keeps you awake all night, report to follow next week!!!PEACE
The sucking continued to stay away today as we gang doinked a spike. An intruder to our spot almost blew the day by spooking deer behind me. The woods echoed with the snorts and stomps of one he blew out. As he faded back to where he came from I got off my game plan to see if the one he blew was gonna push my way.
Instead another one that had offered Deep Deckhand no shot had snuck right up my ass... Busted, I chose not to push the issue and let it walk down to Matt, DD's cousin.
I heard a clean hard it, a lot of crashing then kicking. After a waitof a half hour we found a ton of blood but no deer. We went back late and it was a three man effort to finish the job. Score another one for team Deep...
Yesterdays hunt involved me tripping over a low limb in the dark and really doinking my one leg... I didn't notice it then but I had also jammed my shoulder pretty good when cushioning my fall. This morning I could feel it and took a few practice shots before heading out. They were not good at all. It took about eight cracks before I could get back anywhere in the vital block at twenty yards... With that. My mind was made up to only take close in good shots...
Oh well, we did see some does but even in prime shooting form they would not have been in shooting positions. Either too long or too much brush in the way .
So, I've got one in the cooler along with some tuna. My boat needs some preventive maintainence done before season gets roaring. My computers at home have security issues. The weather doesn't want to let me take another canyon run and I guess its time to roll back to the swamp to try out my new black powder banger on a boar.
