That picture got me going with all those cans in the background! Do we all know how Canvasback got their name?
Canvasback are definitely my favorite! I collect antique canvasback decoys mainly, I just feel that they are the most regal looking duck!
As for eating give me a pintail, woodie, or teal.
I feel the same about mallards, I would not be surprised to see them mixed in with pigeons sitting on a statue.
I would love to live closer to some prime duck real estate, down here around Hampstead and to the south is not that great, I would like to be shown that I am wrong but I have just not found the puddle ducks around here, saltmarsh hunting that is.
I hate to say it but the saltwater hunting I had growing up on Long Island was 100% better!
But I will say this the fishing SUCKS!!!!!! up there compared to here, I LOVE the fishing here!!!!!!

The hunting around the NHC area does indeed suck. But north of here can get good about any where. Very hit or miss but when the birds are here you have to get on them. Have had some really good hunts around here, mainly north of Harkers.
Traveling is a must.
Fixing to leave as we speek to go chase some birds on the Pamlico.

Lee,
I know that being not from here is a detractor, and I spend alot more time fishing then ducking. I heard them really lighting it up from my deer stand Thursday morning, but the shooting was over by 7am.
PLAN 9,

BLUE PRINTS.......AS FAR AS THAT PICTURE OF SILVER LAKE...............DON'T YOU KNOW I HAVE SAT IN FRONT OF PRETTY MUCH THAT VERY FEW HOUSES THERE AND TALKED TO THE NEIGHBORS, SOME OF WHICH HAVE MARLIN FISHED WITH US IN THE PAST, AND SIMPLY DROOLED..........I HAVE SAT THERE ALONG WITH ANOTHER GREAT FRIEND OF MINE IN A STATE POLICE CAR DRINKING COFFEE........DREAMING OF SOMEHOW SHOOTING THAT POND.........I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN FROM YOUR COMMENT ABOVE............
I know Lee pretty well, I met him before I moved to the Wilmington area, and he taught me alot about the local area when I first moved here. He is one of the most stand-up guys you will EVER meet.
Between carrying charters, work, family, and deer hunting I find it tough to duck hunt as much as I would like. Add to that we are not allowed to hunt on Sunday and you start to limit your days. Couple that with a woman who enjoys venison and cooks it also and you can see why duck hunting is not high on my list of things I am ALLOWED to do regularly.
So I choose my battles, get in a few days here and there, and wait til the day when my son is old enough to start to hunt (he will be 3 in Feb.).
Since these Greenheads are so easy to kill these days Id love to see some new pictures posted up from this year with some fat greenheads and orange feet...I read a book one day on duck hunting and it didnt teach me mallards were stupid or easy to kill..But I could be wrong...
