Huntin Report

Went to the swamp the other morning for a quickie.

Had four teal come in right at shooting time, two stayed.

A little later, a nice Black Duck tried to land on Max (what we call the MoJo) missed him dropping, knocked him down rising.

Maybelle did great.

Left at 745.

Did not go this morning, cause it is warm enough for the snakes to be our and about, 60deg seems to be the magic temp.

Probably the last day we will hunt in this middle season.



Went to Bertie for the afternoon, had a cool hunt, 2-3yo 7 pointer come out in the field, like he was lookin for trouble, a little later two small bucks a spike and a 4pointer came out on the other side of the field. The larger buck had this look like, I am gonna go over there and kick some punk's asses. Well when he got close they bolted, the larger buck pissed and scraped all up an down the tree line. Pretty cool site.

The last day of the middle season, and I took Jeremy with us this morning into the swamp.

Rainy and warm, some wind, did not think we would see much.

Killed a Drake Gadwal, a Drake Woody, and a Blackduck.

Missed the Hen Woody that was with him. Saw a few more ducks.

Jeremy had a pretty good hunt for his first time duck hunting.

Maybelle made three good retrieves too.

We were having a stellar day right up to the Maritime Disaster.

All I can say is Jeremy's Indian name is now "Cheif Tipsacanoe"

HOW ABOUT A CANOE REPORT THEN....

We took on some water on the starboard side, 3 victims in the water. All were recovered with no casulties. After further assessment, the vessel received no damage. Water was removed and vessel was uprighted.

In other words, I upset the canoe trying to get into the bow to go flush some ducks near us. I got one foot in, and the other was stuck in the muck, and my momentium caused me to fall into the canoe. Me, Jay and Maybelle all went into the water, with Jay holding up my shotgun. Canoe was listing hard to starboard, full of water. Some water in the waders.... It was friggin' funny, after the fact.

It was like the whole thing was happening in slow motion.

There I was neck deep with shotgun in the air laughing so hard I could catch my breath.

Maybelle almost cleared the canoe to high ground!

I could have saved myself or Jeremy's gun, so I took one for the 870.

I think we will be alright in the future, as long as we don't get Cheif Tipsacanoe together with Cheif Ramsjonboat (my dad).

Too funny - I know where you can get some training wheels for that canoe...

At least Maybelle is ok
