HELP in identifying a snake?

Found this little fella in the pool skimmer. He was about 10-12". Kind of looks like a Northern water snake but not sure.

bet he scared the shit outa ya when ya opened up the skimmer basket!!!!!

im workin with pools alot during the week and id chit 2 bricks and a cinder block if there was a snake in there!
