So I could have worded it better - The Northern Water Snake is Native to NC

I didn't think I needed to comment on Yankees in general

Box, That is why I underlined WAS. He was actually "hoe'd", as that is my usual tool of choice to get the live ones out. Have had several "ring neck" snakes, not sure of what they are called. I didn't like the marking on this one, looked similar to Copperhead, and a couple of others.
Jesse, I usually have 3-4 a year and most die in the skimmer but I have the suction turned down right now as I have the automatic cleaner (Creepy Crawler) going. This one the Wife saw first and it scared her. Snakes, spiders, & ticks, I have no use for.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that may not be a Northern Water Snake. Here's a link to a juvenile black rat snake - looks similar to me.

    Snake

Thanks for your replys! I guess I have to go with the water snake which is better than any poisonous snake. My neighbor suggested the rat snake but that looks like it has a line down the side/bottom, which this one did not. Thanks again and here's hoping no more get in the pool. Attaching a pic of the 4' black snake that was on the pool cover back in May, which we found the shed just last week behind the steps that would have been noticed so it was recent. THEN last Friday I was going to do the weekly maint on the pump and that sucker showed how fast they are. Damned if I know where he is now.
