I agree with Shunt, the larger one is likely more like 4 1/2 but I think the smaller one is more along the lines of 2 1/2. Either are good for eastern NC (I used to hunt Cherry point) but I would let the smaller one walk in hopes of next year. I would put the heat on the larger one, very nice spread, and mass. IMO the double patch throat is the deal sealer on him for sure.
Good luck with him

I agree it's all in the eye's of the shooter. But wouldn't either one make some kids great first deer !!! Marty if you've got a special youngster in your life here's your chance to never be forgotten. I take kids hunting and fishing just for a chance like this. It'd be your greatest hunt ever!! Great photo's. Frank

Great Footage

Marty, Great Footage Capt. The second one is definitely a shooter. You've shot 'em both in my book capt. That is by far the most impressive patience that I have ever seen to be able to relax with a camera for almost an hour, after you snuck up on 'em and to catch all of that on footage and to be cool enough to share it with all of us. Dude you never cease to amaze me with your pics and footage fishing or hunting. I am with Frank on this one, capt. take a kid down there and set up on 'em he or she will never forget it. I can't get over the fact that you had the patience to shoot all that footage and not want any backstraps. More of a hunter than most people can probably comprehend. I have often wanted to video waterfowl and deer from the blind and/or the stand, but have wondered if actually have the control. You have definitely inspired me brother. I am going to try it this year now I have definitely made up my mind. Keep it up capt. and take a kid out there - it will blow their mind. Nice Work Capt.

Yo Box

If your lease is adjacent to another hunt club's property or surrounded by roads, I'd take them. I found a big bodied buck on the side of the road earlier this year when they first started to grow their antlers and hopefully it wasn't this guy. It's a shame to let an animal of this caliber go to waste. It's an old picture but my buddy had him on camera last year. Hopefully he's still alive
