My buddy John has been trying all bow season to get a deer on the ground. He didn't take a shot earlier in the year, and missed a button a few weeks back.
I got in from Canada late last night and couldn't hunt with him so he headed out early this morning all alone.
At 7:30 I got a call, and the voice on the other end of the phone was out of breath and all excited.
He had spooked a group of 4 as it got light enough to see, and 15 min later had a doe and fawn come in front of him at 20 yds.
The doe looked up at him, then turned away and John drew and shot as she was stopped and quartering away.
The shot hit the back of the right lung, and went right through the middle of the left lung. She ran 65 yds up the hill and crashed.
I got there to help him track it, and saw it before meeting him at the stand.
He shoots a Diamond Rock @ 65lbs and rage 2 blade mechanicals. The blood trail was good, but nothing too crazy.
I love it when a plan comes together.....when you let it fly and you know its right as soon as it leaves the string and then you hear that unmistakable thwack of a well placed shot...great job on a nice looking doe...each and every deer taken with a bow and arrow is a trophy...great job fellas.
