    Goose Report- Eastern Shore

my first succesful goose hunt. i have not done much water fowl hunting but i can see why people love it. i thought it was really cool how much the geese reacted to calls/decoys.

we set up in a cut cornfield with a couple hundred decoys and 3 guys in lay out blinds and one guy hiding behind a shed. running a little late and at first light while we were still putting the decoys out we had some buzz us.

this may seem weird but it was almost to many geese. at times we would have a small group coming right to decoys and then a larger group would show up behind them and the smaller group would swirl back to them and it just seemed like there were to many eyes. at one po int we had close to 60 at about 70 yards but they would not come closer.

ended up with 7 with four guys. had many more opportunities but no one shot well.
lost a few more cripples b/c of not having a dog.

well it was a great hunt and i got my first goose!

o and by the way we either saw a crossbreed of a snow and canadian, albino canadian, or what we all thought-specklebelly.

    great late season action!

Congrats on your first goose Jake.

I wouldn't doubt that you saw a Speck. There is a small population that winters on the east coast and a few are taken each year in NJ, DE, or MD.

The geese were pretty ornery today for us too but I talked a bunch into staying for dinner after a lot of calling!

    Welcome to the addiction

    Thumbs up Addiction is right!

We had real good birds all the way till noon yesterday! Shooting was great and notice the size of the Bird on the right! Landed like a bag of cement! They were still trying to get in the spread while we were leaving. Hey Jake...glad You are turned on to a fantastic sport and I am sure You will be calling them and dropping them for many years to come!

Jake...Thats great. Wil was insistant on giving it a go in a field behind the house we can hunt instead of Muzzleloading Saturday afternoon. Our tiny spread of 12 Real Geese silos where no match for several thousand live birds across the street about 500yds away. Certainly can see where experience and knowledge could give the goose hunter a serious advantage. Think I will stick to the Doves until we get a couple leasons.

Finished the Season off with 31 Doves saturday morning. Only the "educated" birds where left. High, fast and dodging.

Hey Dave Thanks...We will be in touch. Trying to put Wil on another deer this weekend during the 2 day gun season, maybe the following weekend. Boy, Wil will be excited.

Jake I guess your dad still remembers all his moves from his younger days???

I learned that You must be very careful to conceal the lens of the camera on a "bluebird" day. Last Fri was gray and I could follow the birds right in. Sat turned out to be a beauty of a day but I quickly found that they could pick-up the glare of the lens. I got cursed a couple times by Da' Boys!
