The Story
The Story: It all started when visiting Winks during the off season to shoot inside during some bad weather. They where finishing up a techno hunt league and Wil got a kick out of watching a group shoot and next thing you now we where there once a week shooting at the big screen. He choose the turkey scene one day and shot well and hinted about maybe trying for a turkey with his bow. Then he shot at the MBS shoot at arrowhead and the last stand was at a turkey from a blind. After that he said "I'm going to do that this year dad" ok I said but you have to practice. No problem there, wil was outside just about every morning shooting and every Tuesday he would shoot the turkey scene on techno hunt. Think the Tuesday before the season he even shoot 50 times from a stool.

We had some birds we had been watching and plans where to set up on them, but on Friday I watched the spot and they never showed. So went looking for more. Found some birds working a wheat field adjacent to one of our food plots, but oddly they where hanging out in the deep wheat not th food plot. For the most part all you could see where heads and fan tops every now and then. Got in early Saturday in dark and set up in middle of field with blind about 7 steps into wheat from food plot, Jake decoy
at 2 steps and feeding hen at 6 or 7 steps. Heard no gobbles on the roost and just hung out calling every 20 min or so. Had 2 hens pass by at 50 heading to wheat. Then while peeking out behind noticed a red head sticking up out of wheat a good ways off and a group of heads sticking up in field across tree lined ditch. No real response from calling. At about 845 I notice a red head heading our way from our right . Came right in and Wil was able to draw before he got out front. Had to hold a good while till bird made it far enough to clear window edge. Wil held it together and made a great 10-15 yd shot.
