FOUND HIM!
on the last day of the MD rifle season my dad shot at a buck 200 hundred yards away. it happened so fast so i could not really focus the binoculars to well. through the semi unfocused binoculars it looked like the deer was hit on the first shot. it jumped straight up in the air and landed and put it's head down. then lifted up his head and started trotting towards the middle of the field. my dad shot at him again and on the shot he ran into the woods runninng about ten million miles per hour.i was not sure about the second shot but when he was running his tail was down which means they are usually hit. the next morning we went to the spot where he was standing. saw exactly where he jumped up in the air and landed funny. the only problem was there was no blood. so we decide to just go look around in the woods. looked for about 4 hours and nothing. no blood nothing.
so i was talking to my buddy the other day and i was telling him about the deer. it turns out that he found the deer in february while shed hunting. he said it was pretty decayed when he got it but it looks like the shot was high and back. it was only fifty yards off the field but when it ran in the woods it took a sharp right turn and ended up about five hundred yards to the right from where it was hit. we are meeting my buddy on friday to pick up the rack. it is not a HUGE deer but it is a decent deer that is my dad's first buck. prob will score in the 120's. pictures coming soon.
Glad there was an ending... I too shot one in Jersey,3" 000 Buck Shot Nice 10 came in through the pines 40 yrds.. blaam.. buck jumps takes of no follow up due to thicket... Once I got down.. I was dumbfounded to see one pea sized drop of blood.. I was able to account for most of the 9 pellets so I prayed it was a minor hit & he would survive.. In April of the next year- I was helping my brother replace posts & wire in the pasture down back.. 800 yards or so in the opposite direction I thought he went back in December...One of our dogs found him in a thicket just off the fence line.. sucks to loss all that meat but at least we know & have a nice set of bones...
