Nice Buck...How did the coon hunt go? Would love to see a few pics and hear a few stories on Coon Hunting. Have some great memories of coon hunting in the mountains around West Union, WV around 25 years ago with my best friends Grandfather. One of the funniest quotes was "THIS IS A STATE HIGHWAY?????" If you did not have super tall, not wide, buckshot mudders and a winch you where not driving on that state highway..Water and mud coming in the passenger side door....lost dogs showing up at home from miles away....pitch black dark listning to the dogs....nothin like a dog/coon fight....the memories.
I just started going with the pastor of the church down the road from me. I have been twice with him and we treed three times, but it was in November and most of the leaves were still on the trees, so unfortunately no dog/coon fights.
The second time we went he took two young dogs. One had only treed a dozen or so times and the other was basically a rookie with his first tree. The young one did run a trail though, but the tree ended up being slick. The second chase of the night ran about 800 yards farther than we wanted to walk. Finally got there and we couldn't find the coon in the tree, either it was slick or the 500 ft tall hickory blinded him out of sight.
We definitely did some sittin and listening in the pitch black for about 20 minutes on the second chase of the second hunt. We also had the youth pastor along for that hunt and that stinker fell asleep listening to the chase! Couldn't believe it, but he is just now getting introduced to huntin and fishin, but he is trying.
If we ever get one I will post the remains of the coon and details on the trip.
Two out of three is not bad. What kind of dogs do you hunt with? I have three walkers. They had a good fight the other night. I have the coon hide drying out now.

My buddy has red ticks and blue ticks, (I guess thats how you spell it). He probably has about 10 dogs, but we never take more than 5 at a time. Three of those would be puppies in training. Still waitin to see my first fight, I can only imagine till then.
