    Favorite Rifle

What is your favorite rifle ? Everyone has one gun that they enjoy more than their other rifles. Give a detailed description of your rifle and why you like it.

    I'll start off with mine.

I have a Remington Sendero 7mm Mag. I have had this gun for about 6 years and wouldn't sell it for 5 times the amount I paid for it (Might trade it for 28' Albie or 28 Carolina Classic if boat is in above average condition with diesel power). It has a Leupold Vari-X III 4.5 to 14 x 50mm Scope. The gun comes from the factory with a full length aluminum bedding block and heavy barrel. It also comes from the factory with a HS Precision stock that is Kevlar and Glass. As far as shooting , I can shoot a 3 shot group at 100 yds. with factory Winchester 150 grain Ballistic Silvertips and the pattern looks like an obround hole no more than .375". I've taken Pigs in South Carolina, Deer in other states, and Elk (1 at 435 yds.) in Colorado with this gun. One draw back...It weighs a ton.

    Wow a loaded question...

I have had a bunch of rifles through the years. I had a 7mm in a remington 700 model. The beast kicked like a mule and I got rid of it.
I had a marlin 336t lever 30-30 that I flat loved. I could bust ashtrays at 100 yards free shooting on iron sights. Had a friend who loeved it even more than me. I gave it to him...
Had an old enfield #4 sniper gun (not standard filed gun) .303... Was tough to find different rounds.
Had a 243 browning... That bullet is just too fast and squirrelly around brush to use...
I have a weatherby in 375 that I have never and possibbly will never use. Its more a work of art...
Then That brings me to my every day gun. I really don't care one way or another about the gun but you gotta love a good ol 30-06 to brighten your day. I have about a dozen different loads that I play with. I have standard 150 grain winchesters for all around. I have some hotter federals also in 150 for the long shots. Then I have some way hot 165 nosler custom rounds for elk if I ever get to go elking again... Then I have my swamp load. 180 grain round nosed and slowed down . Shoots flat to about 200 then drops like a stone. I like that so I don't worry about carrying heat out a couple miles. Its also a sweetie for getting through grass and light brush with no deflection.
Its just a package gun but the damn thing drops the rounds where I tell them to go... Never misfired. Hit every animal I ever shot at except the first one I shot at through grass. I to this day have no idea where the bullet went... It didn't even land in the field of vision on the scope...

REM. SENDERO IN .243 AND TOPPED WITH A SHEPERD 3-9. I LIKE THE SCOPE DURING GOOD LITE CONDTIONS . I TOOK A DEER AT 50 YARDS THEN TOOK ANOTHER OUT OF THE HERD WHEN THEY STOPPED RUNNING AT A LITTLE BETTER THEN 400 YARDS . ONE THING THAT CONFUSED ME WAS THE DEER I SHOT 50 YARDS HIT A RIB AND STOPPED IN THE HEART . THE ONE AT 400 HIT THE RIB THROUGH THE HEART AND OUT THE OTHER SIDE . I LOAD SUM OF MY OWN . I USE WIN. NICKLE SHELLS COMBINED TECHNOLOGY BALLISTIC TIPS 95 GR. PUSHED WITH IMR4831 41 GRS. THE ONLY THING I COULD THINK WAS AT THAT DISTANCE IT DIDN'T EXPANED AT THE LOWWER SPEED . I BETTER STOP ! I LOVE ALL MY GUNS AND CRY ABOUT THE ONES I SOLD OVER THE YEARS ! GREAT EXERSIZE FOR DRAGGING THE DEER !

I had a couple of '06s in my time and yes they are a very good round. Another plus for this cartridge is that you can buy tons of different ammo for it. Years ago the sold a round called the Accelerator for the 30-06 and the 30-30 Winchester. It had a plastic sabot around the bullet and I thing it was like 55 grains. The thing went like 4040 fps. in the 30-06. Being that my 7mm. weighs about 8.5 to 9 lbs the recoil is like nothing with it. I have a 340 Weatherby Mag that is brutal at both ends, so much so that I rarely shoot it. The recoil is so bad that I can't be accurate with it (Flinching). I intend to get a break put on it one of these days... years.

Sarge what you said about the bullet expanding is correct I believe. At the higher velocity the bullet probably came apart somewhat on impact where at the slower velocity the expansion was less and penetration was greater...I THINK .
Man I'll tell ya what, those Combined Technology bullets are the best thing out there as far as I am concerned. We load them into a 300 Ultra Mag and it shoots that round better than all the others we have tried. That is what Winchester loads their Ballistic Silvertips with. I too buy them and reload them for my 7mm. When I hunt elk I use the Fail Safe bullets.

Now you're talking what I remember when I was into this stuff. The Good ole accelerator Round. Many a Acclerator, Old Milwakee, and Ground Hogs were used up in the mid '70's summers. I remember sighting in (trying to anyway) my 30-06 @ 400 yd with an accellerator two inches high so I could try to get that 700 yd hog.--- may even have done so if it weren't for the heat and the Old Milwakees.
What ever happened to this poor man's varmit round?

Man thats the wildcat of the wild cats. That Lazzeroni guy puts out some hot stuff man. His guns cost you an arm and a leg though. Savage makes a good accurate rifle and with that bullet you have to have a winner.

Funny you should say that Glenn. When I was younger and not to bright, you know 18 to 28 or so I would get me a six or two of Old Mill grab the gun and head back in the woods behind my parents house. I'd sit my self down along the fence row and watch for whistle pigs out in the field, while kicking down the brews. When I was done drinking one I would pitch the empties into the honeysuckles growing in the fence row. Now I am 45 years old and have not drank anything for 10 years, but sometimes when I go to moms house and walk into the woods I go to that fence row and there lays all them beer cans under the honeysuckle after all those years. AHHHH the memories. TRUE STORY
