Fall Turkey 11/21 Pa Bear 11/23
Just getting back from the mountains of central Pa. Had a great time and had some good hunting also. My bro and I headed up Friday 11/20 mainly for bear season which opened on the 23rd , but with the last day of fall turkey the sat before we wanted to get out one last time and try and get a thanksgiving bird. We both shot this bird after we busted the flock and had only this one hen come back in . Cool hunt . Check out the wart looking things on this birds neck any Ideas what it is?. Monday morning found us back in the woods looking for a bear. Saw a lot of game but no bears until late in the afternoon when our buddy tommy shot this 135 pound Sow. Not the biggest Bear but she had an amazing coat on her. All in all it was a great holiday vacation.

HEY THATS A GREAT BEAR, WHERE DID YOU HUNT IT. YOU DID REAL GOOD, EVEN THOUGH THIS YEARS BEAR KILL SO FAR IS THE THIRD HIGHEST, WITH OVER 3100 BEAR KILLED IN THREE DAYS, ALOT,OF HUNTERS DIDNT GET THE CHANCE LIKE YOU DID.
THOSE WART THINGS AS YOU CALL THEM ON THE TURKEY'S NECK ARE CALLED "CARUNCLES" THERE JUST A FLESHY GROWTH, THEY WILL GROW WHERE THE TURKEY HAS NO FEARTHERS WHICH, IS THE NECK AREA.

Thanks ! The Bear was killed by my buddy in Lycoming county , just south of williamsport. There were 2 killed on the same mountain we were hunting over 400lbs , so we were in the thick of it just never came by me , but really happy for my Buddy Tommy.
Did you hunt the NY season?

HUNTING NY IS A TOUGH THING TO DO, NO ACCESS TO LAND IS THE BIG PROBLEM THEN COMES DEC WHICH DOES NOTHING AT ALL FOR THE HUNTER, NY HAS NO USE FOR GUNS, HUNTERS AND HUNTING IN THAT ORDER, THEY JUST TAKE YOUR MONEY AND MOVE ON TO THE NEXT SPORTSMAN WHICH IS THE FISHERMAN. I HUNT PA FOR A LOT OF REASONS, THEY KNOW HOW TO TAKE CARE OF THE HUNTERS AND THEY DO THE RIGHT THING. THE BEST PLACE TO HUNT BIG BEAR IN THE COUNTRY RIGHT NOW AND IN THE FUTURE IS PA BUT WATCH OUT WHEN THEY RE-OPEN NJ SEASON, MAKE SURE YOUR THERE FOR THAT ONE FOR SURE.I HAVE BEEN HUNTING PA FOR A LONG TIME MOST OF IT IN POTTER COUNTY AROUND COUDERSPORT, WHICH ISNT TO FAR FROM WHERE YOU HUNTED.THAT COUNTY YOU HUNTED DOES VERY WELL MOST OF THE TIME.

Bear Meat is good...... I don't have too much expierence with it, but I soak it for a few hours in whole milk before I do anything with it. I love wild game , but Bear is very gamey and tough IMHO but soaked in milk and then used for stews and even roasts are really good. Not my favorite of all game but definatley good. Oh and the loins are pretty good too ! :
I have heard of some not eating it at all , But why shoot something if your not gonna eat it? just my humble opinion.
If anyone else has recipies or a different way of doing it I would love to hear about it.
Thanks,
Brian
BTW the turkey went into the Fryer......... Holy Smokes was that tasty !!!!
