expandable or fixed blade?
last year i shot expands... never shot at anything so not really sure how well they work. the ones i shot were held in place by a rubber band. on contact the rubber band was supposed to break allowing the blades to "expand". the problem i had with these were you could not properely put them into a quiver w/ out the rubberband breaking.
i am getting a new quiver this year so that problem could probally be fixed. should i stay w/ the expands... or move on to a fixed blade?
I like the expandable for everything up to elk size animals. I have taken a lot of deer, several black bears, 1 grizzly bear, caribou, javlina with the NAP Spitfire. You can put them in your quiver, no rubber bands to rot or fail. Never had a malfunction on an animal. They shoot much more accurate in the wind than fixed blades. I don't use them for hogs. They would be OK for sows, but I definately don't recommend them for large boars. I use Stealforce cut on impact heads for them. You can also get practice blades for them as well.
I shot 7 deer last year with the bow and all were shot with rage 2 blade expandables, all had unbelievable entry and exit wounds (one guy swore one of my deer was shot with a hi-powered rifle) and good blood trails, that being said it all bores down to shot placement. but, if i am to load my quiver with what i am most confident with, it will be thunderhead fixed blades. expandables are more forgiving with poor form and shooting todays fast bows.
I agree with Prowler, mechanicals are one more thing that can fail.
I've had a few of them fail and will stick with Muzzy fixed blades until something goes wrong with them. They fly great, and I've found that as long as I do my job and make a good shot, the Muzzy will put them down as well as any.
The G5 line has my attention, but until I break all the muzzy's I have I can't see the point in spending the money on them.
I haven't shot expendables in a few years, i only had on bad experience with them.....on a quartering away shot i had one that didnt penetrate right, seemed like one blade opened up and screwed my trajectory but quartering away shots are not the best shots to take anyway. I shoot 100 grain 4 blade muzzys, the 3 blade plane a little on me but the 4 blade track like a field tip for me, bows probably a little out of tune but lots of broad heads fly different, its just a matter of finding what flies right from your bow. I will say one thing though, them muzzies can punch trough bone, i spined one about 5 yards from my stand...deer was directly infront of me so i aimed center of the body and about 10" behind the shoulder blades, my arrow punched through the spine and came out right at the base of the rib cage.....the deer dropped in its tracks and did the curly shuffle for a few seconds with the back half of its body paralyzed and expired in a few short minutes, i dont know if i would have got through the spine with an expandable.
I shoot fixed blades and a buddy of mine shoots expandables. One deer he shot last year, he found the arrow and the blades never opened, also never found the deer. This is why I shoot fixed blades. He kills a bunch each year with the expandables, so it's not a big problem, but it can be.
Life gives me a new perspective and outlook daily.

I like spitfires
I switched from muzzys to spit fires becuase I could see them tracking off in the wind, not much, but enough. I love the spitfires and have never had a problem with them.
