Elk in NC

Made it up to the Mts this past weekend for some time with the GF and her dad and stepmom. Lots of wildlife seen in the catalouchee valley. NC is putting elk back into play up there. We were lucky enough to see 3 bulls. All were in velvet 2 of them were 5x5 (don't know if that is big or not) The one that was shy and just inside the woods dwarfed the 5x5's body size at least 1/2 again bigger and was a 6x7. Pretty neat seeing these in NC, first ones I have ever seen. The ranger we spoke with had some very nice sheds from this past season and estimates the herd at 35-40 now and the cows were having younguns last week to increase the size of the herd even more. Good news!

Along with the elk we saw tons of longbeards and a few hens You can bet I was studying there every move and bodsy postures. Even had a momma grouse go across the road in front of us with younguns in tow.

that's good stuff, the wife saw a mother snipe with littlins a few days ago, it was cool seeing them, PM me some directions, I got time to go check them elk out, would appreciate it.

Hopefully with the reintroduction of Elk, one day there will be a viable season for them.
