Headed out for a little exploring in Utah this morning since Saltwaterbucks and Peerow had to work. Took a 22LR along and a box o shells.
Headed to some BLM land and did my best to thin the "pot gut" Aka prarie dog population. I spotted a few at about 100 yds and let a few shots fly...DAMN...can't even see where I'm missing. All the damn rain yesterday left the desert a muddy mess. I head a little further down the road and put a hurting on two Jack Rabbits. Well at least I know I can still shoot. I figure out the gun is shooting a little high.
I try a potgut at 140 yds before heading over the hill to a new place....miss
I get into a field at the new place and glass for a few victims.
Thwap....target down. Bagged my first Utah potgut.
Not 30 seconds later a golden eagle swoops in and steals the kill. 90 yds from the truck.
He picked at it for a while, then flew off. Potgut instestines were dangling a few feet below as he flew over the hill.....Too damn cool.
I turned the truck around and headed for home when another victim gave me a 50 yd shot.
Ooops...I don't think he should have stood up.
One more afternoon for me in Utah, and no legal game is safe.
