    Duck Decoy Inventors

I need some help guys, this is for an essay project for school. I have searched and searched google and what not for decoy inventors and have found very little.

Any of you know of a good site with information about the first decoys made, wood and cork deeks. With history and what not about the carvers.

Any help with this is much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Brandon

I don't know about websites, but I've got several good books. I can't remember the titles, but I'll look when I get home.
"History of Waterfowling on the Chesapeake" I think was one.
I hate to say it, since we're in the techno age, but you might have to crack the spine on a library book!

Here are a couple of links. If you google "history of duck decoys" you can find some pretty good links.

This might not help much, but you can find any patents for decoys at the patent office website.

The search engine can be interesting to use, pm me if you are having trouble.

    http://www.uspto.gov/

You can search back to 1790, so hopefully you can find something for your report.

And remember, size 13.5 courier new font, 2.5 spacing, and bring in your margins. That thing will be done in no time.

Brandon dont know what kind of time you have but the Decoy museum in Havre De Grace Maryland is an awesome place to get in touch with your heritage. All about Decoys, Madison Mitchell to Captain Harry Jobes. Unreal history. If you could drive up there for a couple of days you could probably get in on a good goose hunt as well. You know the old school understanding of the sport is often forgotten. Nice job putting it to your school work this day and age.

Karl offers up a great suggestion and that is in the heart of Cheaspeake waterfowling territory. You could also catch the Ward Waterfowl Museum in Salisbury, MD on the way back down. The Ward Brothers practically wrote the book on working decoys AND decoys as an artform.
