    Duck Band Returns

My buddy just got the information back from the band on an American Wigeon that he shot on January 14th near Craddock Creek (Chesapeake Bay side of Virginia's Eastern Shore). The bird was banded on August 08, 2003 in New Brunswick, Canada!

As opposed to the three banded Canada geese that we shot early in the season that were banded earlier in the same year on the exact same site that they were shot.

I thought it might make an interested thread if other hunters shared their waterfowl band experiences regarding distances flown from banding site as well as "time at-large"...

Nice thread Bill......I've found several dead in the decoys where the band has been worn so much that the Numbers were no longer legible. No idea what to do there. One big redheaded slob was killed in right near Thalia!

that happens a lot to birds that spend a lot of time in the salt and live a long time(slopeheads especially). send them in to the banding lab and they will use acid to etch the aluminum and read the number.....only problem is they have to flatten the band to do it, which basically ruins it for nostalgia purposes.

Why thank you CL. When I get a chance to swing by the house, I will try to get a pic of my lanyard with all the bands on it for the thread. Hope to add to it tomorrow!

I,m brand new to duck hunting and was lucky enough to have shot a banded pintail on Jan. 16 in Lake Mattamuskeet NC. Which was my first duck hunt by the way. Still waiting on the info to come back but the band had Laurel MD stamped on it with the NO#. So does that mean the pintail was banded there or is that like the band headquaters.

Laurel, Md is the USFWS office for the Atlantic Flyway ( may even be national HQ).

I have 5 that were release bands in Roanoke area that were shot in Greenville NC.

The best one is a black that I shot in 2004 that was banded in Lac Castagnier Quebec in 1994.
