A dog'on good time

Well BeagleMan and I visited at a different club this weekend, and we had a dog'on good time. It was really a pleasure to hunt with this club. We were welcomed as old friends and made to feel right at home. Plus I did have my chances to shoot, as did BeagleMan. (The high point was really getting to meet some new friends)

First drive we turned loose right around the corner from the clubhouse. The dogs were quick to jump. They started trailing right out the box. Through a dried up pond and into some thick small pines with a lot of briers they trailed. I heard them when they jumped him up. The beagles run that deer right to me. I managed to get off a couple shots, but it was just so thick. He ran right between two standers who did not even see him. There was one deer that I know of that was taken off this drive.

The second drive was just as good. I was turned out in a pretty good spot this time too. The dogs tried to trail back towards the truck and the deer started slipping out. I got one shot off at the first one, When I called the dogs on it, the rest of the deer made their exit from the tight brier bed. The dogs split up. Two on the one I shot at and five on the others. Several deer were taken on this drive.

On the third drive we decided to hold our dogs and take a stand. I let three get across the road and never even saw them. Then once I had left my stand and joined BeagleMan at the truck a doe was pushed out almost where I had just been. Ended up seeing four or five more deer that drive. Heard some good races. There were three deer killed on this drive.
