Question Dog Training Advise

OK, Sal, my 5 months old chocolate is getting too heavy (50#ish) to ride in the front seat of my truck. I want to train him to ride in the bed.

I started by giving him short and slow rides in no traffic areas and he was doing fine. At about 10 minutes into the drive he jumped out of the truck's bed. Luckily he landed in a mud hole and the only thing hurt was he's pride.

Any suggestions on how to teach him to ride in the back in a more safe way?

Here he is all covered in mud!!!
Thanks

Mike

buy a kennel... my boss had a golden that he thought would never jump out of the bed and he did and it really put a hurtin on him....i personally wouldn't do it, esspecially with a five month old. but if you do want him to ride in the bed you need to time him off to something in the bed with a short leash so if he trys to jump out he wont have enough rope to get out of the bed.

thats just my two sense but hope it helps man.

My last lab Buddy did the same thing.... but only once. I think it scared the hell out of him and he never tried it again. If you have some dirt roads or trails that you can drive on I think that would be a good place to see if he learned his lesson. They are very smart and should have learned a lesson.

You can also get somebody to ride in the back with him to make sure.

To big for the truck??? come on.... you just don't want the wet dog smell and hair.

They sell a teather for the bed of the truck you can buy them on any online site, try New England serum company or any other online pet store. I think even the man stores(BP and Cabelas has them)

Buy a kennel. I had a buddy whose puppy jumped out and he never saw it. And someone else got them a new puppy. Why spend all the money and time trainin your dog and you can keep that investment for $59.99.

Male Lab. He will jump out and it will not matter how good he is trained.

Get a kennel.

IF you teather him in...make sure it is short. He will hang himself if not.
He is looking good. Has he chewed up any furniture yet. They say if a lab doesn't do $5,000 in damages it's first year it's a mutt.

well, that too!!, my truck has leather seats and I'm afraid he'll scratch them with his nails. Even though I always pit a towel in....I just see it happening soon, he's in the 50's already....

OK, enough sad stories. I do have a kennel already, I use it at night when we're at the bar, so the loud music won't bother him. I'll start using the kennel in the truck....

he hasn't had the opportunity to chew on much stuff yet, I'd say the bill should be close to $200, may he is a mutt

thanks for the advise guys.....

They are getting big fast.... I had Chopper over to see Hotshot 1 a couple of weeks ago and he was 55 #'s. Had to cut back on the food a little....

This picture is from last weekend.
