    Dog, mans best friend

In honor of the Boykin Spaniel being recognized as a breed by the AKC and the breed making its debut at the Westminster dog show, i thought i would put up some pictures of Belle.

here are some links to the breed.

I have a 9 month old Boykin, Buck, let me tell you that dog can do no wrong. He already behaves better and works better than most gun dogs much older than him. The only problem is he thinks we should go hunting every morning, so he wakes me up at 4:00am regardless.

    Boykins and the AKC

I have owned and hunted a lot of different breeds of dogs and from now on I will own and hunt nothing but Boykin Spaniels.

Of course you all know about my Boykin Maybelle.

She is a hunter, and yes, she thinks we are going hunting every morning too, when we sleep in, she freaks out and starts doing the "we are late dance" at the door.

    AKC recognition.....

I really and truely oppose the AKC thing.

They have a track record of weighing to heavily on confirmarion rather than function, and quite frankly have ruined more than a few sporting breeds by popularizing them and being showed and truned into show / pet breeds.

The Boykin Spaniel Society www.boykinspaniel.org has done a great job keeping the registry of pure bread Boykins for a long time and emphasizing the function of the sporting dog.

The breeder I got Maybelle from would not sell puppies to a non-hunting household.

I would really hate to see this fine hunting breed turn into another cocker spaniel, when people figure out what great dogs they really are.

    I hope this doesnot happen.

I will not register Maybelle with the AKC, she is UKC and BSS Registered.

Keep the Boykin a huntin dog and buy puppies that are BSS registered!

Anyway jumpin off the soap box.......

Maybelle's talley so far this year:

    50 doves
    9 woodies
    1 coot
    3 gadwalls
    1 widgeon
    2 mallards

a stellar day from last year!

Yes that is my hard core hunting dog laying on her pillow on her chair.
