dog hunting. the good, the bad and the ugly.

The Good. This past Saturday we got together with the still hunting club that joins our dog club and hunted the still hunting land. There were lots of good races. We killed eleven deer all together.

The Bad. There were only two bucks out of the eleven killed.

The Ugly. There were seven dogs that died on that hunt. One was accidently shot by a young person, and six so far have died from some sort of poison.

What kind of poision? Was the person whos land you were hunting part of the hunt? Did the dogs travel off the land?

tests are being done now to determine the type of poison was used. I know it worked really fast.

Yes. It was the still hunting clubs idea to hunt their club. Still hunters killed five of the eleven deer killed on that drive. It seems that the dogs came in contact with the poison while on land belonging to the dog club that we are members of.


No. We were hunting club(dog) land 3,500 acres, and also the adjoining still hunting club which has about 1,200 acres. The other adjoining tracts are also dog clubs. We are the smallest of the three adjoining dog clubs.

Wow... thats terrible. I wonder if they just got into something... or someone actully went in there and poisoned them... Sorry to hear that

Hate to hear some of your dogs died on the hunt... Atleast you killed 11 deer and two nice bucks. We killed 9, one half way decent buck, 2 cow horns and the rest were does. We were vastly short of hunters for opening day. Now were yall running beagles or walkers?

calebw, The dogs that were affected belonged to other members of the club. I returned home with all ten of my beagles safe. The only positive thing to concentrate on is that there weren't more dogs affected. Could have been worse, all dogs could have been killed. There were both beagles and walkers affected.

Sorry to hear about the dogs being poisoned. We have had some of our dogs killed but never six at one time. Since they were other members and you got yours back seems as though they were poisoned prior to the hunt maybe? Same truck transporting them? Something along those lines?? A long time ago, someone said antifreeze and hamburger is a way that gets to dogs real fast? Hope you/they catch whoever might have done this! Keep us posted.

we are positive that the dogs got into something at the club. The test being done will tell us what they got into. Now we just have to figure out how it got there.
