    Dog food crusher

This might sound weird but I need to crush large amounts of dry dog food into "sand" size pieces and can't figure out how to do it. 20-50lbs at a time

My lab has a tumor blocking her large intestine and has grown into her liver. As a result, I have to blend/liquify her food everyday but I have to add so much water to it, she can't control her bladder at night. If I feed her straight prescription can food it costs me about $400/month.
If I can crush the dry prescription food then I won't have to add much water and it won't cost me a fortune.

ps- the vet gave her 3 months to live over 2 years ago and she'll still get a duck better than most dogs I know ....

    Any Ideas??

Mybe try a food processor or blender? I remember my old black lab. Had to put her down on my 6th birthday. She was 13.

Best of luck with her. Hope she stays around a while to see many more ducks. I'm sure she's happy as can be.

If you have an electric Ice cream maker that ought to work. Or you could swipe one of SWMBO's electric mixers, get a big plastic bucket. Two short 2x2's and tape the mixer so the wood will hold the mixer on top of the bucket. take the metal mixer blades and saw off the wide mixer end. fabricate an extender somehow (simply clamp on some threaded rod should work-- in line, not offset). turn on low and come back in a half hour.
Of course, the easiest is just run the dry food through a blender in small batches.

how about an electric chum grinder or sausage grinder. Fix a hopper above and a shoot made from pvc to the chum inlet. Set a 40 gallon plastic drum with the top cut out under chum grinder outlet. Hang the hopper from a tree branch or the garage door track inside the garage.

good luck with your dog !

I do love the redneck innovation- I'ts a lot better than what I came up with. My master plan was to sandwich the food between 2 sheets of plywood and drive over it with my truck!
I think Flat might be on to something here...I'll post some pictures when I get the contraption finished.

I vote for flat's idea. But is the grinding fine enough with a chum grinder. Just curious though what perscription food are you on? An intestinal one or a liver one.

I'ts actually a diet food Hills w/d. The tumor has grown all into her liver so the vet didn't want any extra fat or anything else in her food that she would have to process.
It's also grown into her large intestine and is blocking most of it which is why I have to liquify her food. If I feed her regular dry food she can't pass it and ends up puking it back up.
