This deer was being watched, that is for sure. We watched him a couple of weeks ago and had some video of him from the other night.
As the sun started to set, I had two little fawns come out and play around. Next was a beautiful 8. Now, that 8 would have been a trophy for me. It was very hard to hold out. I watched these three for about 45 minutes until others started to show.
At one point, I noticed four bucks at the other end of the field... All I could think was that the big boy was down there. I started to worry until more bucks started coming out of the woods closer by.
Suddenly, there he was. The buck fever was bad. Thank goodness I had time to collect myself. I had a few good shots as soon as he came in the field, but the another buck was right behind him and I really didn't want to fowl him up... The other buck finally moved and I got the 13 quartering away with a .270. I knew he was mine.
He fell about 50 yards from where I shot him.
