Well dead eye jen has shot two racoons and missed one. She also informed me last night that there were three raccoons in the barn last night. We made some weasel traps as suggested but she won't sacrafice a live chicken. these are her pets. so she put one of the dead chicken in the hole and it didn't work.

Hey Squid, all my years of Pheasant hunting I have seen many headless birds. I have been told from long ago this is the work of the Great Horned Owl! they are ruthless and will not stop until all the birds are gone... Last year someone on the board had an issue with Mallards in Maryland same thing.. You still need to knock off the other critters but I think your neighbor is right! Good luck... just remember Owls are protected so be extra nice to him if you ketch him

AGREED!!! Dead bait won't cut it!! Weaseltraps require "live bait" (at least that's my experience and it worked for me)

So far I've been lucky this yr and haven't lost any of my flock (lost a few egg's to them black snakes but I can live with that)

GOOD LUCK!!

Put a few live blue crabs in the weasel trap. Coons will be on them just as fast as the chickens I'd bet.

Yep got to be live bird in the trap. For the snakes. . Put golf balls in the nest. Snake will eat it with the eggs and it will kill the snake. It works. I got pics to prove it. I sometimes find snake trying to break the ball against the wall. Damnedest thing I ever seen.
