I still say you are unethical and stand up for my rights to defend my property agains ALL thieves and tresspassers, so if you are breaking in to my place or tresspassing my land you should be worried...VERY WORRIED

    Have a nice day!

Again man, it is my land!!!

However, it could happen being you are hunting so close them them on your 1600 acres??

Problem is I hear staged dog fights every weekend from the stand!! I am not talking about afew strays...I mean a full fledged infestation!!!! I have shot myself over 50 in 6 years and I have no idea about the poison...100's I would guess

We hunt ducks, geese or any bird for that matter on the fly, foxes on the run, rabbits on the run, coons on the run, why not deer, that what they made buckshot for. Besides, when you see a deer run by, yell at it, he will stop and check you out. Its just hunting dude, Your big deer will still be there, I hope you get him this year too!

What if all these people got pissed that you were trolling for fish and said thats not fair and not right, you must anchor up and let the fish come to you, im sure you and others (including myself) would be upset.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok, first off it is my land, if I find a good scrape line 300 yards my side of the property line why would I not hunt it? The dog fights illustrates the caliber of people and dogs I am dealing with. The running deer thing is up to you chief, if you think a 13 for 28 kill percentage on an animal as magnificent as a white tail deer is acceptable with who knows how many of those deer maimed or wounded then knock yourself out dude. 1 more thing, that last analogy about trolling and dog hunting is spot on

Good luck to you as well this season

I don't hunt. But I wish some one would explain it to my Beagle/ Redbone mutt. She goes insane in the woods whenever we get near a deer (or anything else for that matter). Serves me right for adopting a stray hunting dog (from Mississippi, BTW).

Now she stays on the leash since I am not properly trained in how to properly train her. But she still escapes the electric fence on almost a daily basis. Since she is a female (obviously), she usually comes running home, muddy and happy after about 20 minutes.

I've got nothing against hunting and would like to give it a try one day. I sure do like to eat vension.... I just wish my dog would stop hunting on our walks.

I realize it sounds cruel, but i've shocked myself with it before i put on my dogs and it does sting abit, but it's not more than a good smack to the rear with a switch and you can get his attention from a good ways off.

    Hope this helps!

    Thanks Mike.

We do use the electric collar. She responds to it pretty well when I am around. But if we leave her in the yard alone, she is gone, gone, gone if a good scent comes along.

It is sort of amusing in a strange way. Her nose moves. Her hackles raise. She runs up to the edge of the electric fence. Stops. Then she sort of grits her teeth and bolts through.

When she comes back, she sits outside the fence and howls. She has no reason to "do the pain" on the way back in. She know we will come and let her back in....

I think she thinks "Pain is temorpary. But if I catch that deer, the glory is forever." Which of course raises the issue of what happens if she ever does catch the deer..... that really has me concerned for her safety.

Now that is funny! Ok, I can help. Mine did the same to start. Try two layers about 5 yards apart. They don't mind the first, but the second is just too much If your box is big enough, you can run two layers on one.

Thats funny as hell we had an english setter that used to do the same thing, she would get a running staret and leap through to minimize the shock...next morning she would be sitting on the other side waiting for me to shut the fence off, so i would go grab her by the collar and drag her through the fence slooowly....man she hated that.

Finally saw this thread and had to put in my two cents. I have a small plot 50 acres outside Charlotte in SC that I do everything I can to keep a healthy deer pop. I put out food plots, control coyotes, have a few small ponds for summertime water, lots of white oak, and plenty of natural and enhanced shelter areas. I do not hunt near the plots, I do not use corn piles, I use long, recurve, and compound bows as well as a rifle toward the end of the season depending on how full the freezer is. I do not take more than I need except to give 2 or 3 away every year, for my Mom and one of the women down the road with 3 kids. I grew up a sportsman meaning you worked for the shot you dont drive down the road whoopin and hollerin chasing your damn dogs chasing deer. As far as Im concerned any dog hunter calling themselves a sportsman is a load of crap, your a slob hunter using a truck or sitting in a stand waiting for the dogs to run them by and then opening up with your semi-auto shotgun with buck shot not sure what you've wounded unless it drops is disgraceful, And yes I have witnessed it first hand I was invited by fellow workers to go to their "huntin club" and thats what was called hunting, Slobs thats all. If you arent 100% sure of the shot dont take it. Its funny these so called sportsman run there dogs near my house hunting deer guess what its not legal in this part of SC do you know how many "hunting" dogs dont make it home that run through my property? I do. I also know those nifty little transmitter collars dont work so well smashed on the ground. People down here are always complaining of the size of the deer. Well maybe if the DNR would actually manage the deer instead of letting these slobs kill everything, things would change. PA has some of the best game management policies and guess what they have some of the biggest deer on the east coast and guess what no dog hunting!!!! Yes Im am very familiar with PAs rules and traditions I grew up both here and there and still own almost 1500 acres of old family farm there.Geez management what an idea I guess its the same as fishing to me runnin dogs is no different than long lining. People call this a tradition? Yeah lets teach our children to be fat lazy slobs tear up everything and to hell with tomorrow. Why dont you take your kids out teach them to resepect the land and to pick the right shot and to be responsible not take more than you need One last thing I dont mean to single you out and Im not trying to be an ass but Capt Mike Buffington you stated that you shot over 75 does in one season. Why? How can you possibly need that many deer? Isnt that a little over the top? I do respect your other views on the subject but why so many? Anyway my two cents if you disagree with the dog issue, your choice. Dont bring your dogs or self on my property your dogs will get shot and I will have you arrested for trespassing or just bust your gun over a rock and you can explain why it happened to the sheriff.
