worry about the anti's not each other

I just have to say this.
We should worry more about the poor recruitment of new hunters into our sport and the continued attacks on our sport of hunting then who thinks their hunting method is better then anothers. We see too much flaming on these websites, and although it is a open forum we must police ourselves. I see it on too many forums that people are afraid to post because they do not want the scrutiny/bad mouthing/flaming if they did something or do something that is not to someone elses liking.
If we continue to fight amongst ourselves we will fall apart and tell our granchildren what our sports were like.

Just MY .02 worth.

i know this is an old thread but i agree with beaglewoman, i like to hear the dogs run...can't wait for the season to start! i stillhunt some to, but nothing compares to the excitement of that pack of dogs roaring coming your way. Our club use to have a ridiculous amount of land but over the years we have gotten smaller. We still have a sizeable piece of land and do our best to keep the dogs on our property. Yeh, we hunt out of trucks, but with some of the high powered dogs we turn loose we have to use trucks, cb's, and tracking systems to try to keep them on our lease. BUT we have problems with the renegade dog hunters too. anything out of line that happens around our lease gets automatically blamed us, even tho everyone knows who did it. But everyone has to get along if any of us wants to hunt. I for one will damn sure campaign to stop all hunting if my right to doghunt is taken away!

I have a few young dogs who will have their first season this year. Lucky and Lucy. They seem like they will be little balls of thunder. Their bark sounds like they are stuck on a hot wire.

We are getting ready for the upcoming season. I got new snake boots, got the collars all tuned up, getting the truck ready. BeagleMan and I joined another dog club this year. 3,500 acres so our little beagles will get to stretch their legs well. Should not have to worry about them getting off the prop, and if they do they will be on another dog club either way they go.

DEER HUNTING WITH DOGS ?????

Here in NY we hunt...

No dogs, No corn Allowed.

Go on another mans land, you will go to jail...

Chasing deer with dogs, do you really call that hunting???

How about some automatic weapons so you can get all of them at once and save some gas money...

Sounds like some lazy people who like to kill instead of hunt, which would be much to hard to do...

It gives the antis to much fuel for their fire...

We got deer like here like NY got rats. Yes, hunting deer with dogs is method of hunting used here. There is a lot more to it than riding in a truck. The goal is not to have to move the truck. The dogs should return there once the deer they were in persuit of either eludes them or is took down. There is a lot of scouting and feeding of the deer. I always go into the woods with my dogs. I stay in there for a while trying to jump one up once the dogs are off and running. I do not go back to the truck and drive around. A lot of the deer that are killed are killed while they are slipping out, once the dogs have passed by them. I try and set out on a good deer path, and follow it till I kick the right bush and make one jump up. I also enjoy hunting coon with TW Coon hounds and I have to say that there is more work that goes into the deer hunting with dogs. Vet bills, Feed, Corn, there is just as much time and money spent on this form of hunting as with any other style used here in SC. It seems to be a right popular method here. I also enjoy still hunting, and we still hunt the same properties that we dog hunt. Does not seem to impact the numbers killed out the stand. All the time i spend in the woods allows me to scout the area well. When it is time to get in the stand, I always know which one I want to sit in. I know where the big buck signs are and choose by that. Members of the same club that don't get the time inthe woods, don't do as well it seems. I like to take advantage of my time dog hunting not sitting in a truck as you immagine, but out hunting. Heck that is what it is.

I prefer to shoot a pump shot gun.

different for sure

NYC, is famous for their rats, in fact they would go after your dogs...

Using dogs to hunt deer... it just doesn't sit right with me, I never have tried it, but... up in Maine they run bear with dogs, and I feel the same about that... They even hunt turkeys in PA with dogs...

Up here we are over-run with coyotes, they run the deer all of the time and we kill them all, they have a law here for dogs running deer they can be killed ...

There are Pro's and Con's on everything as it goes but... you have to look at the big picture... yes, IF... it is legal then you should be allowed to do such, but... you also have to do what's right for the sport and all concerned including the game being pursued... and most of all keep the anti's off our backs, maybe you can use your dogs on them...
