Well, I got to turn out the hounds. Finally. I couldn't sleep at all Friday night. Got the hounds loaded by 6 or a little after. I guess about 30 people showed up at the club. 19 standers and the rest dog men. Today I took a stand while BeagleMan drove the hounds. I saw 6 DEER all together. First I saw 2. Then I saw 2 BUCKS. I shot at one(8pt) of them about 5 times. I missed all 5. I thoought sawing an inch and a half of the stock of My BROWNING would help me aim better this year, but no it did not help. Then I saw 2 more BUCKS. No one at the club killed so I didn't feel so bad. I think I am the one who saw the most deer. I know that I shot more than anyone else there. I took some pics at the club.

well i just signed up for this.

I dog hunt most of florence county and a few bordering counties. We use mostly walker dogs down here. I was reading some of the first post on this topic and i wanted to state my own opinions.
First I believe it is much more difficult shooting a deer with a shotgun running than shooting a deer with a rifle&scope eating. Second, even if I don't see a deer all day I get excited hearing the dogs. I've never shot a deer with a rifle but when I do I don't think it would compare to the experience of dog driving. =)

Welcome Cumbie.....Nice First Post! I'm a Horry County Boy myself and grew up dog hunting. But unfortunately I see it coming to an end as our population grows. As with our area, the large landowners such International Paper have given in to public pressure in certain areas to curb complaints of dogs tresspassing on others property from theirs. Not to mention their property is obviously worth more in terms of developement than tree farming. Hopefully it will live on in the rural areas where large tracks of land still invite club leases with the purpose of dog running.

Now a days, most hunters are still hunters and just as the age old battle of Commercial Fisherman Vs Recreational Fisherman, we to are at odds with one anothers opinions as to how to hunt or fish. And with the comparison, we should all realize that we need to stand together as one rather than be divided. In the end it will be the non hunters and non fisherman who will decide both of their fates as we stand divided. Whats the Old Adage! Divide and Conquer!!

But until then, lets turn a pack loose about daybreak and hear them coming through the pines pushing that Old Buck out of his bed............yes thats SWEET MUSIC my friend! Good Luck with your season!

Welcome aboard. I am glad to have someone here who likes to hunt with hounds. I live for it. LOL. I went last Sat., didn't see anything while I was at the club. I did not go today, went to work instead.

We have a field to shoot monday. We have been seeing a good many doves on the wireline. I am on the phone with the farmer right now checking on the birds. Says there is a good many there today.

Yep cant wait to see those little collared targets trespassing across my property again. Even though dog runnings illegal up in this part people still think its ok to trespass. I guess I shouldnt complain they make great target practice.

It seems the coyotes are getting bad. We have killed a few right here in our yard. I left a deer for a few hours(while it was cold weather), and when I returned, the yotes had eaten all the exposed meat, I just turned her over so they could finish their job.
