25 days till the season open!
The time sure has went by fast. Only 25 days to get ready. Tracking system has arrived back form quicktrack, new batteries for my collars, shot records, a little grooming of the hounds, I think we are almost ready. I am just waiting for a good sale on buckshot so that I can stock up. Also got to oil the weapons . I am still interested in finding people here on this site who enjoy hunting deer with dogs. Also would like to find some who enjoy coon hunting.

BEAGLEWOMAN..............wont be long now. Opening day is just around the corner. I can almost hear those pocket rockets of yours opening up in the pines!
Make sure to juice them up a bit with some B-12 so the heat won't wear um down too bad.Unfortunately, the tide is changing, this very well could be the last year of Dog Hunting as we know it. I understand that legislation is in the House to outlaw the practice. Yes, they have tried this before, but public opinion is changing.Sadly, those who throw there hat into the ring to help the cause may soon see an attack on their own outdoor pleasures. As we all know, the Anti's will not stop there, next will be hunting in general. So those who help to give them a toe hold are only cutting there own throats. Some should watch who they get in bed with, next thing you know their partners will be taking away their fun pastimes too.

I attended the meeting that was held in the Gressette building at the statehouse earlier this year. I was assured that dog hunting was safe. When I went there I was unsure, but by the end of the meeting I had no fear that we are on the way to phasing it out. It seems that there is some need for better laws to enforce the tresspassing issue. I agree that tresspassing is a problem. I try not to tresspass, so this is no big deal to me. If I know my dogs are on someone elses property, either I get permission to go in there, or I just wait. The land owners near the tracts we hunt are understanding. Most look forward to the drives, by the end of the year last year we had been contacted by the neighbors requesting we turn out on their property just so they could see what was left in there. It was a great hunt. We covered many square miles and killed some nice deer. Later the same night we all got together and turned the coon dogs out. Treed a few times and called it a day. This shows me that there is a middle ground that we were able to meet on and all had a good time. I strongly agree that it is not right to tresspass on another mans land. Our dog club leases and owns land just like anyone else and we have the right to hunt it as we want. Just as anyone else can do with theirs like they want. I also sit in the stand on days I am not hunting with my dogs. Sometimes I sit at the dog club just to see what I can. Usually all I see is does, not gonna shoot those out the stand. I only have seen bucks there during dog hunts. I guess something has to get after them for them to walk in the open. Just because someone hunts with dogs doesn't mean that they don't follow the sc hunting laws. In our club if you are caught breaking the law, you will be punished. By the club and by the atthorities. This is club rule. This is how the club is still a club after all these years. It is not right togo on another mans land for any reason with out permission. plain and simple.
For those who want to end dog hunting, the best advice I can give you is change the laws . Until the laws are changed here in SC, You will find me hunting with my hounds every Wed, Sat, and holiday(Plus the last two weeks of the season). |

Good for you Beaglewoman.............I do hope it is safe, but I do fear that there are politicians who talk out of both sides of their mouths too. We all know that.
I think that if Our Legislature would fund our DNR Dept better it would put more officers on the ground to enforce laws we already have in place. The Legislature has cut DNR's budget each year thus tieing their hands to properly go after perpetrators. My god, they are even rationing out their fuel for boats and are allowed to only put so many miles on their vehicles each month. How does one do a proper job when this is the work enviroment that an officer has to contend with. Well thats another problem in itself, goodfor another thread I guess. Good Luck with your season and I may get an opportunity to see you guys some weekend this fall.

Hey there. First Post
Love to Bow Hunt, Black Powder Hunt, and run Hounds. Walkers. Dont own any myself, but have plenty of buddies who do. Field trial/Bench show them the hole anchilada. I'll go to one or two of those a year. None this year though. I firmly believe if the tradition of running hounds dies in the south, so will hunting with any type of dog for any type of hunting eventually. Maybe not right away, but it will leave an opening to the anti's that will lead to the demise of it all. I know plenty of folks who dont care for huning with dogs so I dont get too riled up about it. Most of them dont hunt much anymore period. Not because of dogs, more that it was just a little hobby they liked to do from time to time not really a passion. Just a way to kill some time. But for some reason dog hunting makes their hair stand up. It's those guys and the rest of the folks that never have hunted properly with hounds, or even hunt for that matter who'll end up F*&^ing it up for everyone. And I do mean everyone. Eventually. As for sitting and watching a corn pile. Like the folks that get all riled up over us running hounds I see hunting over a corn pile as the same. Pretty common. Except I dont get riled up. I just laugh and roll my eyes. As for the folks that say turning 10 hounds loose in a 3000 acre block and shooting the buck is a lazy way of hunting, or easy... I refer you back to my earlier statements about those who've never done it. Any rate...to each his own. One of these days we wont be able to hear the hounds or beagles run if only because there wont be any places to do it. Things are getting built up faster and faster all the time. The housing slump will slow it down for a few years, but it'll get right back on track. As the farms get busted up more and more everyone down here will look back on this period and say "These WERE the good ole days", when all of us could hunt any way we wanted. And we enjoyed the hell out of it. |

Rest, There is no time to rest now....just begining
I was wondering how long it was going to take for me to get some attention form you Captian. Positive or negitive, I like it all. Hate the Hater. That is always good. As far as giving it a break, I can't. I am devoted t my pack of hounds. They are so devoted to me. The season is what 20 days away here. no time to rest for sure.
So tell me some about catching them big ole herring u fish for. Look if you ever come back to the states, look us up and I will show you just how much fun you can have with a pack of dog, a couple standers, an a big ole buck. Try it once, maybe you like it. I just can't see how you can slam my style of hunting. Just immagine if some nuts came up with the idea that chasing fish from your boat was just plain wrong. What would you say to the ones who thought it should be outlawed? Chasing fish with a boat, no more, fish only from the bank. That would be crazy to even immagine. THats how I feel about hunting with my beagles. I get bored sitting on the bank, I wanna go get them, where they live. I like to hunt coon hunt also. Here is a pic from tonight.
