    Deer Chase

I saw a pretty cool deer chase on the way home from duck hunting this morning. It's the last day of deer season in Va. I was driving down the hill on a divided highway in a big river flood plain with fields on both sides. I noticed a couple dozen trucks up the road a bit.
As I was coming down the big long hill I noticed a very big buck running with a full pack of Walkers on his ass. I mean, they were on his ass. I pulled over to the shoulder to watch the events unfold.

Now this deer was very muscular with one heck of a rack, but he wasn't running as fast as you would expect. The hounds were only a few yds behind the deer. He didn't have a limp nor was he favoring anything, just wasn't running all that fast through the muddy field with a pack of dogs chewing him a new one. He jumped the road ditch and made it across the 4 lanes to the field on the other side. A drainage ditch was about 100 yds into the field lined with orange hats.
    Pow!! Pow!! Pow!!!
I don't know if the deer was hit or not, but he sailed over the drainage ditch and the last I saw him he was 500 yds away and still getting it.

good story Glenn. About 5 weeks ago a doe was high tailing it along a major highway. Out of no where is a big buck running at her. Gaining on her to with in 10 yards and convincing her that he was a better choice than the highway full of traffic. No sooner than a second or two. A smaller buck enters the run. The larger buck takes his eye off of the doe and charges the smaller buck. Lowering his rack and in a sweeping up motion nails the smaller buck in the hindquarter. He actually push the smaller buck in the direction of the doe. The race was on again. Now the larger buck was in the 3rd spot and all raced to the tree line a 1/8 click away. We were doing 55 when I saw all this happen and our field of vision was not hampered. In full stride the three disappeared as fast as they appeared. There is a federal park near us with many acres of open fields. We are careful when the hunters are driving deer or the rut season is in full swing around here. It is awesome to see the wild life so close to our home. The boom boom echoes the wooded area quite often around here.

How many ducks will line the refrigerator this week Glenn?
