Being Tuna season is s fixin to fire off in full swing I thought it was time for me & Hunter to try to get another day & a half of hunting in so we set our sites on some of the Bear we have been seeing. We made it in the stand about 3:30 Monday afternoon only to be greeted by several does & a smaller buck we stuck it out hoping to see the right bear before dark not wanting to kill a small deer. Just before dark two nice Bucks came out in the lane 225 yards from the stand. I knew he was a good shot from what I have seen him do at the range but I was a little uncomfotable with it but I told him to go ahead & take it because it was a good buck. He never stopped walking but was broadside to us the whole time just as he was fixin to go in the ditch he shot. I saw the deers back legs kick as he went in the ditch. We went & looked for blood about 30 yards across the ditch blood was everywere so we backed out & waited for 30 minutes. Once we started tracking i told him this would be very easy but after about 200 yards through the thickest woods known to man the blood went from a easy to follow trail to a speck here & there after about 30 minutes of crawling through the briars looking for each speck we crawled up on him all I could see was horns & a neck through the bay bushes so I took a shot to finish him off needless to say I should leave the shooting to Hunter he jumped off & crashed away so we kept on behind him for another 45 minutes only to come up on him again but this time it was a done deal. Tuesday morning it was Bear or bust for us we seen a few Does & a shooter 8 pointer that was very far down the lane but that was not what we were looking for. Around 7:00 I heard the reeds coming to life beside me after about fifteen minute he pocked his head out of a tunnel about 20 feet in front of the stand & bolted across the road he was easily a 500 pounder & that was it for the morning hunt. In the afternoon we went back to his lucky stand only to see a few Does & a 200 pound Sal that we let walk. I must saw I have enjoyed spending time with him in the wood more than any other thing I have ever done. On the way home last night he told me if I could have killed the Bear all I would need now is a Blue Marlin I told him he had the rest of his life to slow down & enjoy it that he had no idea how lucky he was then as we were pulling in the driveway a deer ran in front of us which was the first one we have seen at the house. BTW I need a Taxidermist I have plenty of fish contacts but not deer any help would be apprciated.Well I am off to the boat to get the 130s ready!
