WIth the Front coming through, 20-25 kt SW winds kicking up last night, and high tide at 10:00, I couldn't pass up hunting today.
Since I wouldn't have good water till 8:00 or so I got a liesurely start and was setting up at 7:30. I went to the mouth of a creek on the lee side of a thin saw grass penensula on the North side of the River. A no brainer right?--- I should have my limit by 9:00
WRONG!!!!
Oh the birds flew well, mostly Blacks/Mallards and Teal with a a fair number of Ruddys buzzing the water. Only thing was, they traded the main River all morning, and were determined to light on the bar 300 yards offshore and deal with the 2'- 2 1/2' chop instead of the protected areas. They didn't even head for the Marshes much a high tide. Once the flight ended about 10:30 I ran out to the bar to see if someone had put Duck candy down. No sign of it---- then I saw what thy were all after----- milfoil. The milfoil is dying off in the river but still green. The blow pushed it off the grass flats and bunched it all up on the bar.
Zero, zilch, nada, Not even a shot (at a duck anyway). Hunted till 3:00. I was so aggrivated I cut loose on a huge wad of Starlings about 2:00 --- a bunch of them sombiches fell.
Something with webbed feet is going to DIE tomorrow morning, I guarandamtyou that. ( can't hunt the Bar though as it is only 350 - 400 yds some from one elses blind)
