    cyotes and bob cats?

    Looking to target some predators...

I have a hundred or so prime, bear deer and turkey huntin achres in Southwestern Va.

With this last snow I went scouting tracks and found some nice cat paws. But i dont know much about hunting these felines and wild doggies.

Anyone hunt predators in Virginia? that could give me a few tips?
I have a heavy barrell 243 and a nice 223 at the ready!

    Thanks
    Taylor

Coyotes are hunted up here in NY/NJ at night. Usually set up behind a blind and play a repetitive predator call. Dying rabbit, etc.

That's all i know. Long cold nights lol

I dont know of many folks that target predators here.
I have open field, clear cuts, steep mountain country.they should be there. Spotted a big possum last week.
I put out some trail cams so we will have to wait and see
    prey
I think the calls are a good idea.

I wonder if they prey on turkeys? the bob cat tracks were in a little bottom area where i always find the turkeys.

God forbid I have some nasty kitty cat after my spring gobblers!

I've always wanted a cat, but never seen one. I hear that Buffington dude is the wild feline authority!

Up here in NJ the coyotes prey on varmints. Rabbits, possums, etc. You see them more up here in the spring when the rabbits are out bumping uglies. That's probably why the season runs late fall winter. It's a cheap stamp up here.

Don't have much input on the cats up here.

WHEN I WANT TO TRAP A BOBCAT....I POP ME A LEGAL DOVE , CROW, FIELD LARK, SNIPE, QUAIL, RABBIT, MUSKRAT, ROADKILL COON, SQUIRREL... DOESN'T MATTER AS LONG AS IT IS LEGAL AND I PLACE IT IN AN AREA SUCH AS A LARGE SANDY SPOT.....4 X4FT....SNOW WILL ALSO WORK

I CHOOSE THE SANDY SPOT SO THAT I CAN COME BACK AND CHECK FOR BOBCAT TRACKS...

CHANCES ARE THE BAIT WILL BE CARRIED OFF....IF YOU SEE NO TRACKS PROBABLY A HAWK OR EAGLE FLEW OFF WITH IT

BUT THE TRACKS ARE THE KEY...

IF I WISH TO SET A CONNIBEAR TRAP YOU CAN OR YOU CAN SET UP WITH ANOTHER BAIT...RABBIT OR DECOY WITH SAID WEAPON ON THIS SAME SPOT

I LOVE TO USE A SQUEELER.....FIRES THEIR VERY SMART ASSES UP!

IF YOU PROVIDE HIM WITH A FREE MEAL A FEW DAYS IN A ROW HE WILL SCREW UP ONE TIME TO MANY AND SHOW UP WHEN YOU ARE SET UP ON HIM

TIME OF DAY WITH A CAT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE EITHER. CHECK OUT THE TIMES ON MY TRAIL CAMERA.....PRETTY COOL UHHHH.....I JUST MISSED HIM BEING THERE.

I GOT ME PLENTY OF CATS TO PLAY WITH NEXT MONTH!

    GOOD LUCK!

IF IT'S LEGAL WHERE YOU HUNT, USE ROAD KILLS FOR BAIT, HUNT AT NIGHT WITH CALLS,WORK THE LOWLANDS AND POWER LINES. GET YOUR RED LIGHTS AND LOOK FOR THE CATS,THEY WILL BE THERE.

FIRST LIGHT ON FIELD EDGES FOR CATS IS ALWAYS GOOD, ALONG WITH HUNTING FIELDS BETWEEN 8 AND 10 AM FOR YOTES, ALWAYS WORKS HERE.

HUNT HIGH DURING THE DAY, CAMO, SCENT AND EQUIPMENT IS EVERYTHING. ALOT OF PUPS AROUND THIS TIME OF THE YEAR, THEY ARE ALWAYS GOOD FOR SOME ACTION.

    Thanks guys,
I just made some calls and the 1000 achre farm down the road claims the coyotes are ruling the place.
My property boarders this place so I bet they are in here.

I have heard that for the coyotes mid am is a good time, so that you can catch them as they are on there way home

I smell some hides on that new pole barn out back. hehe!

The next bite on a jig.
My cousin had a good weekend on them at the our farm "The Wild Kingdom" as we like to call it.

He used a electronic call and they came in on a string.
