Box you were right, the hunt on Monday was absolutely incredible... A buddy (Mike) and me packed up our muzzle loaders and traveled up to Tarboro on Monday. He had not hunted in a couple of years so today was his day to take one down. As we exited off 64 into the Tarboro area, a doe was walking down the side of the road as if she was a local resident on her way to work.
Making the turn into the farm green eyes go flashing in the fields like fire flies.
In the woods and up in a tree before light! Around 9 or so Mike shot but called me on the radio to tell me he had missed a branch had knocked the bullet off its path. But had seen at least a dozen deer that morning. We decided to have an early lunch. Wendy's just a couple hundred yards down the road was calling my name. As we were sitting at the drive up window 2 deer walk out of the woods just across the road and begin having there lunch..... "deer still feeding" wolf down our fat pill, get back in the woods.
We decided to concentrate our efforts in one area so, Mike went in the woods before me as our stands were only gonna be a couple hundred yards from each other. Just as I got in my stand a flock of 8 turkeys came within 10 yards of me feeding. One of the gobblers had a beard dragging the ground. It wasn't 10 minutes later Mike shot and had downed a doe.
Out of the woods and back home before dinner time....What a day of excitement...
