Sit down Shut up And fish
Couple of does today
Me and my buddy matt headed out tonight in hopes of getting a doe kill on film for a DVD him and a few buddies make. Here is the story that he typed.
'' About a month ago I came up with the idea of filming Jr killing a doe (or possibly a buck) for the deer hunting dvd that i'm working on with a few friends. I thought it would be a good idea to get a young guy in the video as there don't seem to be very many teenage hunters left anymore. Mike agreed to help and donate a couple of his spots that were filthy with does.
Two weeks ago I decided that we would hunt one of Mike's spots on a Saturday morning. We froze our asses off and had our hunt ruined by 4 coyotes that were running laps around us all morning. We agreed that we would try again during Jr's Christmas vacation. That ended up being today.
I picked up Jr at his house and we got into the woods around 2pm or so. We were sitting side by side about 3 feet apart in separate trees about 25 feet up in climbing stands. At about 2:30 Jr spotted some deer feeding about 100 yards away. We could only see pieces of them because they were so far away and the cover was so thick. All of a sudden a doe came in from behind us on a trot and was quickly walking out in front of us. I barely had time to get the camera turned on and put on her. She made it past us before we were ready when Jr stood up and finally stopped her in the last available hole. He had a quartering away shot at about 20 yards and he drilled her. At first I thought it was a gut shot but I didn't realize how much she was quartering away. The arrow went in behind the last rib and came out the opposite shoulder. We watched her run off and then kept hunting.
The deer that we saw feeding 100 yards away seemed to make there way into a bedding area and we assumed that they had bedded down because we couldn't see them anymore. Mike was on his way home and was going to be in the area around 3:30 or so. I called him and asked him if he could come kick the deer out of the bedding area for us and he agreed. Mike arrived and promptly kicked 15 deer out of the bedding area and heading our way. They hung up a bit and he had to loop around them to get them to come to us but to make a long story short they did come our way. We had a big doe and two smaller does (not fawns) break away from the group and walk right under us. Jr had to bleat at them to stop them and when they stopped directly under us he drilled the big one right behind her shoulders. Perfect shot. We watched her run off but just like the first deer we didn't get to see her fall.
Mike came over and we regrouped. We got to tracking both deer and found them both right at the last place we saw them. We gutted them and dragged them out of the woods ending a great hunt. I got the entire hunt on video and the footage came out awesome. No f##kups, plenty of light and two great shots.
The kid may get his balls busted a lot but I have to hand it to him. He made two great shots on these deer tonight when the pressure was on and the camera was rolling. Neither shot was an easy shot. He had to stop both deer in specific spots to get the shots and he did just that. I know this will go to his head but he did a great job and this hunt is going to look as good as any once it's edited for the dvd.
A few pictures. ''

Something very odd. As the big doe was coming in we noticed that she was limping pretty bad and had something white at the base of one of her front legs. I had no idea what it was but it looked really strange. When we recovered her we found that the white object was a 2.5 inch section of pvc pipe. It looks like she somehow stepped into this section of pvc pipe when she was younger. It must have got stuck on her foot and would not come off. Her foot/foof/dew claws actually grew around the section of pipe. Very strange. It looked like it was really hurting her as she was limping really bad. Not something you see every day.

Nice story and great photos!! Dont hold out on the video!!! Looks like a great set with the stands on trees so close together. Do you have camera arm mounted to your stand for your video camera. I have been using one for the past 10 years and it makes a huge difference when doing video. It is really tough to get great video and the kill with good light. Most of the time it is to late or raining. Out of Five deer kills this year i only managed one doe kill on video. Two it was rainy and two there was not enough light. I have about 10 hours of great footage I need to go through after the first of the year ....

Sit down Shut up And fish
As soon as I get the video I will post it
This was all filmed from my buddy, all manually. He does have one of those arms that you can control and film by your self though.
