Couldn't take it anymore

Well, today was one of those days I just wasn't feeling it. There was a pretty good breeze and I hate sitting in a stand when it's blowing. I chose to head back to the swamp and bow hunt instead going elsewhere with the muzzle loader. I got in the stand around 2 and sat and waited, and waited, and waited. Not even the tree rats were out chasing each other. Finally around 5 I saw a few deer off in the distance. It took them a good 30 minutes to make it my way. 2 small does and a button buck. They were going to cross the creek and walk out in front of me but they just wouldn't commit. I guess it was a little too deep and they didn't feel like swimming. They ended up getting behind me and they hung out there for a while.

At about 5:45 as I'm turning back to my back left to watch them, I hear some footsteps to my front left. I slowly turn back and there's a nice 6 pointer with a broken off tine on his left side. He's headed straight for them. He crosses the creek to my left and starts chasing one of the small does in a circle. As I'm watching this game of merry go round to my left, I hear some more movement back out in front of me. I turn around again and there's a 7 pointer. He's grunting and crashing through the brush like it's not even there. I decided it was time to finally let one fly if he presented a shot. And that he did. I drew back and he walks into a clearing at 10 yards, perfectly broadside to my left. I grunt, he stops, and I release the arrow at 5:52. WHACK. The arrow sticks in him and ends up breaking off while he's running. He made it about 60 yards before folding up like a lawn chair. I love it when you can see them go down from the stand.

Not huge, but it's nice to finally put one down this year.

Nice job with the bow, and you are right that it is very rewarding to see them pile up and know it's a done deal. Good job on the write up, made me feel like I was right there. Congrats on fine buck with the bow.
